code reading?

code reading?
Is there a way to get into the OBD-II without a code reader?? I know on some late model vehicles, the techs can navigate the codes within the CPU by just sequencing the correct buttons. Such as sequencing the buttons for cruise control. I've seen it done on my 2007 International 4700. My check engine light/emissions light is on in the Expy. Trying to avoid the dealer

After. I ordered a K&N drop in too. When i went to pick it up, the box had been tampered with and it was the wrong filter in the correct box. So they ordered another one. Relevant? Well the old filter was pretty bad, and i had to put that one back in. After that is when the light came on. So, being an emissions light, i assumed putting the bad filter back in was the culprit. I checked all connections and it is still on.

-sorry if i wasn't clear, i never took the K&N out of the wrapper because it was the wrong one. Is the MAF sensor the one plugged into the intake just after the filter? Like i said, the old one (paper) was pretty bad, (oily) and had to put it back in. IF oil did get on it, how do i go about cleaning it? Thanks

well, i had the code read today, and it came up as a emissions code in the intake. The tech (not ford) said that it was probably the MAF sensor. Apparently some of the emission system is covered by a 5 year, 50,000 mile warranty, and some of it is covered by an 8 year 80,000 mile warranty. Other than my extended warranty. Next stop: THE DEALER
