Well, we're thinking of buying another 4X4 Expy since the present 2001 has served us very well and will use it for more daily use and the new one for trips where we need reliability.

I have one quote that is interesting, it's for an 2008 mfg in June 2008, Eddie B. standard length, tow pkg, no navigation sys, moon roof, 17 inch wheels, and other misc options.

The sales person said it was discounted $7000 as a 2008, making the price about $37,000.

They said a new 2009 would have a discount of $3000 and would be about $47,000 list and $44,000 after the $3000 off.

What should I be looking for when negotiating with the sales people?

Aslo, is there any compelling reason to buy a 2009 over a 2008?

 

Well first, no 2007 would be made in 2008.

And, if it is a 2008, depending on the options, 37,000 is a bit high in this market.

Yeah, I plugged in a few options and with rebates I am coming up with $32,055.

 

Berry, I just got off the phone w/ another dealer, he says there is one in WY he can DX, an EB 2008 w/ 17 inch wheels, no nav pkg, and the other misc stuff I want.

He breaks price down as sticker being $42.5k, Ford discount $5k, his cost to go get it $500, my price about $33.5 k before taxes and his $100 or so prep charges making total about $37.5k.

He says I can save [if I understood correctly] another $1000 if I finance it and could pay it off at any time.

Does this sound reasonable?

Also, do you think there is significant differences between the 2008's and 2009's to make waiting for a 2009 worthwhile, not factoring in the increased costs, but considering functionality alone.

 

I have not seen any interior pix of the 2009's. I know some minor changes are going to happen. You can use Flex fuel, no fuel cap, etc. The exterior will be the same.

I would call as many dealers as you can. Ford is hurting bad. Some dealers also give better prices for 'internet' customers.

It's up to you whether you want to wait.

 

none of those deals sound too good. There are dealers around me, houston, tx that are taking anywhere from 10K to 15K off plus doing the ford credit financing of 0% for either 60 or 72 months, it was 72 and I think it is 60 now.

Father inlaw just bought a 08 Limited with heated and cooled seats, power rear gate, rear camera, tow package and a few other gadgets, granted its not a 4x4 but it is a limited, and paid 29K plus tt&l. So basically 32K drive out. Given the market conditions you should be able to get it for less than 37K especially considering most people are not going to get a 4x4, so they should be jumping to get rid of them. Hell ford is selling their f250 diesel 4x4's for 20 - 25K off.

I called Ford customer service directly in August and they gave me a PIN. X-plan is 0.04 under inoice then take all the incentives off that price.

 

Just to add my two cents... I agree these deals don't look too good to me. I bought my 2007 Eddie Bauer EL this time last year (in a very different economy) and the dealer knocked off $13K. The vehicle had a sticker price of $51.7K (it has all options including navigation and rear DVD, but not the rear load leveling suspension). I paid $39K (plus taxes) for it which to me was a good deal. In this economic environment, I gotta believe a better deal is out there.

 

Well I can tell you there are ton of 4x2s here in FL for 25,900 (eddie Bauers w/ tow package and something else most people get). They said it would be under 30K for a 4x4 equipped the sameway. In FL there is 6K of rebates on the new ones. I've got my 09 ordered up after checking out the new F-150 with major disappointment. I'd also wait for a 09 as they will have a revised 6 speed (6R80 instead of 6R75). They'll also have a new gen of navigation, auto wipers and something else I wanted but can't remember. As to pricing I'd say invoice less rebates right now is a good deal. I wouldn't pay a dime over invoice (I'm on a fleet allocation plan so I've never had to worry about pricing).

 

I agree. Sticker price is worthless. Start at invoice cost.

That sounds pretty high for an Expedition with not many options. Here is the deal I made with mine. I bought a 4x4 Limited 2008 in December (or January...can't remember now) with Nav,DVD, heated/cooled seats, power everything, leather, HD tow package, 20 in rims...the works basically with a sticker price of just under $50,000. Anyway I ended up financing $36,000. And that was with taking a small hit on my trade. Now I did register it in Alaska so I did not pay sales tax so that saved me a few bucks there. Eventhough I live in South Dakota I'm military and still a resident of Alaska so when ever I buy a new vehicle I can get out of paying sales tax. When I bought mine I must have went back and fourth with them for about 5 hours before I got the deal I wanted. Good luck!

The factory where they are building '09's is changing IIRC.

So what are you guys thoughts on QC issues?

Also, will Ford be as willing to make deals on 2009's as they are on 2008's?

 

That would probably be the only gripe I have about mine...the transmition. I like the 6 speed but seems like it searches for the right gear to often or puts it in to low of a gear. Maybe the new one will eliminate this problem.
