Ok, pretend this is NOT a '97 PS...... Maybe?

ANYWAY,
With the key off there is a "relay clicking noise" under the dash. It clicks on-and-off about every 4-5 seconds.
Any ideas???????????
I realize this could be an "after market" wiring problem I'll just have to track down but I figured I'd run it by my ol' buddies on the IDI site.

That don't sound normal, but you are 11 years to new for my opinion to mean anything.

 

Ah, it's only 3 years too new. You know more about my '94 than I do.

I'm gonna pull fuses (one at a time) until it quits clicking, maybe I can track it down. That was my Dad's idea, makes sense to me.

 

get a test light it could be a over load in the relay caused buy a short did u say the truck was wreck or need a lot of new part

 

No wreck, bed has a dent in it and the tailgate's been hit. Neither dent is THAT bad but it's cheaper to buy good used parts than to have body work done.

 

u should look for a short my freind had the same problem in his 00 it crackeld and hisd after he truns the key

 

I have been thinking about this for a while now.

Does the clicking stop after a while, or does it do it all the time?
To check for that, park it with the window down so you can just walk up after a while and listen without opening the door or sitting on the seat or touching any controls.

I am thinking something like a light delay that turns the lights off after you get out.
If it only does it when you are sitting in the seat, something to do with the seat belt light and buzzer.

Or how about a relay or buzzer that is warning you the key is still in the switch and the engine not running.

The last one came from a 07 1500 Dodge, when you turn the key off but leave the key in the switch, that stupid bell chime drives me nuts.

 

It does it constantly. I noticed it while I had the drivers door open working on the "guts".
The key in or out of the ignition makes no difference, I can't tell you for sure right noe if it does it with the key on, engine not running (acces. position).
I pushed the door jam dome light switch in and it still does it.

I wasn't ditting in the seat, do these trucks have the seat belt warnig? I know the SuperDutys do. You might be on to something here!

It definitely has a MUCH slower rythm than any indicator I've ever seen/heard, at least a 5 sec. interval.

I'll have to shut the door with the window down and see if it eventually stops.
I've been too busy at work (I'm just getting home from work now) and fixing the other little problem that I ALREADY KNOW how to fix that I have spent almost no time on this problem so far. It doesn't seem to drain the battery at all, but this truck starts so easy it's hard to say for sure.

I'll bet if it was a Dodge though you would pull my post! LOL

 

I dont know if this will help but you can try I have a 2003 and it did the same thing the sound came from under the dash and that is were the flasher relay is and the problem traced back to the multi switch for the head light blinkers and such

One of the guys I work with has several of them, 84, 86, 2000 2003 and a 2007.
Right now two of them are dead and one is on and off.

 

Must be a retired Ford owner. He's moved on to the finer things in life now.
Are the dead ones the '84 and '86?
I have an '81 that's been a pain in the @$$ since I've owned it, I'm about ready to part it out. It lived a long hard life in Alaska. Maybe I should just bury it with full MOPAR honors.

 

The 84 is a good truck, you just never know when the death wobble is going to kick in and where you will wind up when it does.
If the death wobble was fixed, I actually like it the best of the bunch.
360 4 speed 3500 4x4 with 4.56 gears.

The 2003 has a 5.9.
Sometimes it fires right up, sometimes it don't.
So if you go somewhere in it, you might be walking back, so don't drive far from the shop in it.

He had 4 injectors replaced, and it did get a bit better, but I think the other two need replaced as well.

The 86 does rather well, but the 360 drinks gas.

The 2000 2500 5.9 4x4 has steering issues, likes to wander all over the road.
50 miles on the interstate and my arms and shoulders hurt from all the corrective steering.

 

If i was him I'd go on some forums and figure out what the deal is on the '03, if it has any warranty left I'd educate the "parts swapper" at the dealership. My Dad had to do that once with my Cummins when it was fairly new. It had a voltage regulator problem they could never figure out so he did it himself and them showed them what he had done to cure it.

I'd ABSOLUTELY say the Fords drive/track better, esp. the D 60 trucks. I think it's the track bar.

I'll bet you the 2000 has a broken/weak/worn out upper track bar mount. It's basically the Cherokee set-up, not enough bigger to do the job. There are aftermarket fixes for them. My Dad put one of the "kits" on his '97 (same suspension) and it drives great now.

 

Sounds like a remote-start park light relay or horn relay. if a previous owner had it installed and it didn't work, lost the remote, got repo'd or whatever. like the "security" side of it is still trying to flash the park lights or honk the horn, but somebody probably cut the wire.
