Need to replace fuel filter retaining clips

Hey all. Been a while for me here, but I'm back. The last time I changed the fuel filter on my 99 F150 5.4L, I learned the right way to do it ... because I did it the wrong way. I didn't know I needed a special tool and mangled the spring steel clips inside the ends of the fuel line. I bent them back best I could and put it together. It's been fine for years but I want to change the filter again now and would like to put new spring steel clip retainers in there. Any idea where I can find them? Dealers have told me that I can't order just the clips and the local parts stores are clueless.

Thanks,
Mike Gregory

If you're talking about the circular ones with 5 or 6 fingers pointing up on them, the base number is 9B307. They are sold seperately but I don't think they can be looked up by application. Count the number of fingers (prongs) on yours and post it here, Ed or number dummy or somebody should be able to give you the correct Ford part number.

fuel filter spring steel retaining clips

Ron,
I looked at the local parts store and they had some Dorman fuel clips but none of them looked anything like I remember mine looking. The ones in the store had nearly straight fingers and were not a continuous ring. From what I remember on mine (going back a couple of years), mine were a continous ring with the barbs kind of bending back like a claw. I found a plastic one from Dorman that fits 1/4" filters. This went on the filter I was buying but I have no clue as to if it will go in and or stay in the fuel line. Still looking for help.

Thanks,
Mike Gregory

Not to nitpick, only in the interest of accuracy, but I think there's an extra "Z" in the 2nd part number. If you're dealing with a Ford dealership who's Parts Dept can't come up with these clips the numbers you give them had better be right!

Here are pics with the clips installed.

I tried, to no avail, to find a picture of these little buggers to post. I have some somewhere but of course I can't put my finger on them.

... Adding to an old thread, Dorman in their OE Solutions line makes these as replacements for the 5/16" (800-007) & 3/8" (800-008) fuel lines. The kit containing both sizes is 800-017 is handy when changing fuel pump or dropping the tank as you get both pressure & return line clips / retainers.

They list them for line sizes 10.5mm (fits 5/16" coupler), & 13mm (fits 3/8" coupler). NAPA had the best price at $3/ three pk. The numbers are easily found on part store websites.
