From Owner's Manual
If you purchase additional
transmitters (up to four may be
programmed), perform the following
procedure:

ignition and turn from OFF to ON
eight times in rapid succession
(within 10 seconds) ending in ON. After doors lock/unlock, press any
control on all transmitters (up to four). When completed, turn the
ignition to OFF. The doors will lock/unlock one last time to confirm
completion of program mode.
All transmitters must be programmed at the same time.

Try again Jacob. Unlock the doors and turn the key to on (not start) and back off 8 times. Count the on position as "1" and when you hit 8, don't turn it back to off again. If the doors lock and unlock by themself at this point, you're ready to start programming the FOB's. If the locks don't do anything, try again. For some reason I was thinking it was 10 times, but apparently it's only 8.
This trick only works if the truck has the factory door unlocker FOB. If there is an aftermarket door lock, this won't work.

It was an option, so maybe. Does his truck have a key FOB for it now? If so, does it look like a Ford factory one, or different? If there is an after market keyless entry system, look under the dash for the control box and then google it to see if you can find the instructions to enter the programming mode.
If the truck never had a key FOB, then odds are, there is no factory GEM. You can still have an aftermarket keyless entry added though.
