1963 Falcon Convertible

Looks like a cute little car for sale in Calgary, $5,000.
Wonder if it`s for real, there`s nothing in the pictures to give it away.

Though I`ve never had one a 260 isn`t bad, it`s a downsized version of a 289 with a little less power of course. Previous to it there was a 221 V8 in the early 60`s. Easy enough to swap in an 289/302, I think they`re all pretty much the same in size.

That would be cool. I think personally the only thing I dont like about the car is the front grill. Rest of the car is super nice. Would be neat with a 289 in there too!

I much prefer the 64-5 Falcons but this one looks nice too. I agree on the grill though it`s not bad.

I do like that Falcon. Rare to see a Falcon of that era with a V8. The 260 V8 was the first Ford V8 in the AC Cobra, suitably souped up. Also the first V8 in the Mustang ...'64 1/2 version.

Morris is right ..the 221, 260, 289, 302 are all in the same family and same physical size. At one time , when they first came out in '62 it was the V8 that had the smallest outside dimensions, even smaller than a sbc. Good factor if you want something with lots of power potential, to squeeze it in something tight, like the Sunbeam Tiger.

It`s a fairly nice while a reasonably priced collector car for you Dustin and a better deal than this 65 Mustang parts car: http://saskatoon.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdL...et_id%3D1C4000
I can`t believe this thread has stayed on the topic so far!

Red valve covers = 260 2V

1960 thru 1965, the engines are black, the valve covers are painted certain colors.

Ford did that so mechanics could look at the color of the valve colors, know what engine size it was.

This system was begun in 1952 when Ford introduced their first OHV engines = 215 I-6 and 317 cid Lincoln Y block.

1952/59 the engines were painted myriad different colors as were the valve covers.

Today: Trying to figure out which color the engine was, what color the covers were on 1952/59 car/trucks is a PITA.

Anudder problem...trucks valve cover colors don't match the cars.

For instance 1965: cars 289 2V covers are gold / 1965 F100/350 352 valve covers are gold.

Beginning in 1966: All the car/truck engines were painted Ford Corporate Blue...including the valve covers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
260's were installed in Sunbeam Tigers...but....there's one problemo....
If you need to change a valve cover gasket...you have to REMOVE the engine...I kid you not.
The firewall had to be dished inwards (tunneled) to allow the 260 to fit...there's about 1/2" between the covers and the firewall.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Falcons got 260's midyear 1963. There were two models, plain jane like this car is, Falcon Sprints, which came with bucket seats and a console.
