I still can't find much about this bolt-in IFS from Bob's. They usually have very good stuff and they are usually doable, both pricewise and do-it-yourselfwise. It looks substantial enough.

 

Maybe I'm just seeing this wrong, but from the picture it looks like the spindles are from a rear steer, turned around for a front steer. Ackerman problems, probably. Also, the inner tie rods don't seem to line up with the control arm pivots. Any one else see that?

 

I was thinking about this thread just last week. I still haven't found much information about it.

I've seen a lot of different IFS's, some front some rear steer. I remember reading a magazine article that stated to stay away from one of them, but I can't remember which.

 

I have to believe that after all this time, nobody is using this. I get other messages from FTE concerning problems with Bob's F100's.

 

don't know what it would matter about a nova being rated as a compact? the Mustang II was barely bigger than a wheelbarrow.

That’s true, …………but what also seems to be true is the confusion over what is termed a MII ifs kit, it is just called a Mustang II and somewhat resembles the original design but uses no OEM parts to my knowledge (dodge truck ball joints, maybe) the manufactures (Heidts, TCI, Fatman, etc) have re-engineered it with new heavier parts.

The Nova's in question are not the Chevy II's of the early '60's, they are the early '70's and were cars that could be bought with big blocks. Very similar to Camaros of the same period, and they weren't particularly light (a dressed 4-door would be at least 3500 lbs.)

 

LOL!!! Yes this is the same Bob's F-100. With all the other excellent, proven MMII kits out there, WHY!, would anybody buy this junk. This guy is a crook and a moron. Hiedt's, Classic Performance, TCI, the list goes on, all have proven kits that have sold thousands and all come with, get this, NEW PARTS!! Why would I buy a complete kit of used crap.
Here is a great example of the best dollar spent. Although this price is for the manual rack and usually the power will cost you a few bucks more, but it's all brand new. I have installed these frontends for 10+ years and have never had any problems with them. The smart buyer also orders the front sway bar kit when the front end is ordered.

There is no cost comparision nessecary when comparing these front ends to Bob's. His is not even on the consideration page, nor would it ever come up in conversation.
Through the course of building these old beauties, we all encounter problems and things we must overcome, don't build these problems into your truck.

With over 20 years in the street rod/classic truck building world, I was Bobco's fabricator/assembler for 16 years, I have seen good and bad shops come and go. He somehow has stayed. It's the parts that keep him surviving. I do have strong opinions about shops or people I feel contribute a negative shadow to this small select industry. If you are a crook and enept or hire and use enept people and cover for their very poor work, then I will be the first to stand up and say something. Bob is one of those. I have had customers in the past come in and once they see a real shop full of F100's, couldn't pull their trucks out of his place fast enough. Several got taken for the deposits they had left just days before. Pile on top of that the trucks that came thru that I redid from his shop and you could see why I don't like him. I don't like shops that screw the little guys just trying to build a bitchen hot rod with the few dollars they have to spend. One a**h*** can ruin several new enthusiasts dreams or desires. That makes me real mad.

 

Appreciate you all have done to help the hobby BBKTech. I had an opportunity to see your work in person, outstanding. It is sad but true one "shady" person can drive a hardworking guy or gal from the hobby because they got screwed out of hard earned dollars with nothing to show for it.

 

I'd pass. There's lot's of major (established) suppliers and there must be a good welder around.

 

I don't think I'd be buying anything that Bobs f100 had a hand in manufacturing or marketing for that matter.
