I have stock rims on my 2001 F-150 (RWD) with 255/70R16s on there now. Anyone know if 265/75R16s will work as replacements? I know they'll fit just fine on the rims but I'm not sure if I will run into any problems with clearance. I guess the sidewall is 0.8" taller and the tread is 0.39" wider than the ones I have on there now. Seems like that wouldn't be enough to cause problems, but anyone know for sure?

 

they will fit, in fact you could go to 285,s with no problem

my truck came stock with 265's

 

Actually if he has 2wd 265's are about the limit.

 

On a 2wd use 265s if you want no rubbing, and you can use 285s if you dont mind some rubbing. I have 285 Duelers on my truck now, and it rubs a little on the sway bar while turning, and it rubs the top of the fenders some if I bottom the truck out.

 

What kind of gas milage do you get with the 265's. I am about ready for new tires and was thinking about going to 265 or 285's ?

I went from 265 to 285 no real mpg difference, at least not more than the normal variance I get. Now I am driving 80mi on the hwy each day I am thinking about putting the 265's on again just to double check if i get any better or worse mpg.

 

I went from 285's to 265's mainly because they cost too much to keep running 33's and I was breaking sway bar links and warping front rotors as well as eating front brakes with the 285's. I noticed more downshifting with the 285's, my effective gear ratio was something like 3.07 with them but my mileage stayed pretty much the same as with 265's.

 

Wow galaxie sounds like you ran into some probs. The only problem I had was breaking the sway bar end links but I attribute that to cranking up the torsion bars all the way. But to be honest with the bilstein shocks and the cranked torsion bars it rides smoother without the end links and has less roll than the truck did factory. I havent had end links in over 2 years. Havent touched any brakes since long before the swap to 285s and I have had the Kumho MTs on for about 3 years and 35k miles so far. Dont know if the 2wd components are lighter duty though. I am expecting higher bearing wear, but hopefully will have a new truck before thats a problem.

 

This is the exact swap that I did. 265's in my opinion look so much better then the 255's. I have not had them rub at all and don't really notice much gas mileage difference. It's not like any of us are getting 30 mpg's anyway. It's a truck. mine's a 2wd v-6 manual.
