This morning the wife and I headed out for some early morning fishing at one of the local lakes. Low and behold when we got there, there were 2 Highway Patrol there with a ruler. Needless I got nailed for being 7" over width. I knew I was close, however I didn't realize that It was that much.

Luckily I had a few hand tools and a hacksaw to saw off the standoff brackets holding the pvc guides. I had to saw off 3 1/2 inches off of each side and readjust the guides. They didn't write me a ticket being I was able to fix the problem on the spot. Took me about an hour.

I added the guides when I bought the boat/trailer to make launching/loading easier. It is my fault and no one else that I was too wide for the roadway. Thanks to the Highway Patrol for allowing me to correct this problem on the spot and not writing me a $500.00 ticket.

So guys and gals, be careful they are watching us. I guess all the stink between the governor and the legislature has made them more aware of boats/trailers on the road.

 

what is legal width? my boat is almost 8 1/2 feet wide and I've never had any trouble.
