Flat Head Knock

<TABLE width="100%" border=0 itxtvisited="1"><TBODY itxtvisited="1"><TR itxtvisited="1"><TD vAlign=top itxtvisited="1">i hear a light knocking noise from my 239 flat head,noise seems to be towards the front of the engine,has good oil pressure.the noise goes awawy when the rpms are brought up a bit i removed one plug wire at a ime to try and pin point noise,but the knock didnt seem to change-i am stumped -i suspected a wrist pin maybe??? any suggestions?

got a crab distributor? could be the cam is moving forward. are you sure it,s not a water pump?

not a crab type distributor,and water pupms are new

Took Belts Off -noise Still Thee It Is Defintiley In The Front Area Of The Engine

cam gear-cam thrust-dist gear or bushing-generator bearing/bushing-vacuumn advance

I guess pull the oil pan disconect the rod and see how much wiggle room, but that's just about as hard as pulling the pistons out.

I had the very same problem and it's fixed.Go back to earlier post called Flathead Knock!

well leonhau i wish the search engine on here would find it for me !! i have ? had a knock that i think i have diagnosed and am getting ready to cure , but as a first time flatty owner im always ready to learn ANYTHING !!!!!! i can from anyone and everything .
