what years were unibodys made?
reason im asking is because a guy at my work said he had a 64 unibody..... i never heard of that year of unibody, i always thought they were 61 to 63. so what im asking is this guy full of sh.. or not???

1961 thru 1963 are the unibody years

 

The guy is full of it: 1961/62 and thru midyear 1963.

There's no such thing as a Uni-Bodied pickup. Uni-Body is an enthusiasts name for these 1961/63 models. These trucks are body on frame construction like all Ford pickups have been from 1925 thru today.

Ford called these 1961/63 models an INTEGRAL BODY, because the cab is integral with the bed.

A Uni-Bodied vehicle is one that has the frame and body as one entire welded section, there is no separate frame except on some models that have a stub frame in front where the powertrain mounts.

Most cars on the market today are Uni-Bodied, exceptions being the Ford Crown Vic/Lincoln Town Car/Mercury Grand Marquis which are body on frame.

These three cars date back to 1979. The Ford & Merc have been reskinned exactly once since 1979, the Lincoln twice.

 

Bill is absolutely right. However, you can't fight 40 years of mis-information. People will keep calling them Unis.

Vintage Truck magazine's latest issue has a multi-page article on Integral cab pickups as well as several other slicks. You should be able to find it at better magazine suppliers this month. Has one of our trucks on the cover, so it's not hard to find.

Maybe the guy with the 64 Uni-body isnt so full of it. If you would have asked me a few years back if the 65 F-100 had twin I beams, or a solid axle,
I would have answered this Twin I beams only, But with these trucks being titled the year of sale I can see that he possibly has a 64 Uni-body on paper.

You know, that's very true....I didn't think of that. Some states register vehicles by year sold, not year model.

Case in point: Ford introduced a new Econoline in February 1968, but they called it a 1969. Officially there's no such thing as a 1968 Econoline, but there are peeps out there, that by their registration, have one.

There's also no such thing "officially" as a 1964 Mustang. While introduced on 4/23/64, Ford called them 1965's.

Same thing holds true for the so called 1968 Lincoln Continental Mark III. Introduced in April 1968, Ford called them 1969's.

 

Seems I remember Ford "calling" them 64 1/2's. My best friend bought one of the first on the market (white with 6 and 3 speed), while I bought a Galaxie 500 390/4 speed.

 

Some ppl call them 1964 1/2's, Ford never did. There's not one Mustang part number that has a prefix of C4ZZ.

In the spring of 1963, the 2dr HT Fastback Galaxies came out. Enthusiasts (including myself) call 'em 1963 1/2's, Ford never did.

Original Mustang list price with a 170 I-6 and 3 on the floor: $2365.00.

The April LIFE Magazine for the week following 4/23/64 had a story on the new Mustang, it was also supposed to be on the cover, but at the last minute the cover was changed.

Retired General Douglas MacArther died the same week the Mustang was introduced, so LIFE put a famous picture of him taken in the Philippines in 1945 on the cover instead.

"I shall return!" -MacArthur statement made in May 1942 in the Philippines just before he was evacuated.

Just for grins can you get the info off the Warranty Plate and have someone on here decode it for you. That would tell when during the year it was built. If it's titled in a state that goes by when sold, I guess it could have been a leftover 63.
I would think it unlikely that "new" Uni's were still being built late in 63 as they had replaced it with the "wrong bed". Another thought, he could have a Uni that someone has "swapped out" the door tag with a 64 tag. Would be curious to see if they door tag and the frame VIN were the same.

 

He is correct as long as truck is added to the sentence. When it comes to cars there are several more FEs, and the 360 was not used in any of them.
