All is ready, I am buying a '55 C600 dumper! We are having it picked up on Saturday for the towing cost of $125 (not too bad!), and the trucks price of $600. So for $725 I am getting a solid, workable truck. The cab corners need some TLC and a new windshield is in the near future, but nothing too important. The truck turns over, but we did not have it running due to a slight polarity mistake that we just figured out. The bottom of the dash is a bit rotten though, and the gas tank needs to be flushed seems how the filler cap was taken off a while back for whatever reason. 5 lug wheels, solid floors and working dump. The dump box is even in great shape. He gave me the key because we said we would tinker with it Saturday, but it has already been established that I will be paying for it and taking it on that day. Well, the truck kinda found me in a way. I was looking into buying the F600 which I still have a down payment on when my parents got the idea to find any possible way to stop me from buying it. After talking to one of his friends, my stepfather found this truck and looked it over. He told me about it and I pretty much ignored it, but when he told me it had a short nose a few days later when we were talking about it, I had to see it. So here we are, I am the owner of the truck and could not be happier. We pulled it out of its sitting place of 3 years this morning and have it ready for the wrecker on Monday. They burned up the coil a while back when trying to jump start it with a 12V system, so that will be the first thing I replace on the truck. More pictures to come monday!

 

Wow! What a great truck. Would make a nice car hauler.

 

I do not know what people see in car haulers, I intend to keep it a dumper and use it as a work truck when it is all done. I really do not have a car that is worth building a car hauler for anyway, only a '98 Kia Sephia! The wheelbase is very short, so I do not think it would be the best truck for that kind of thing. The truck was towed to my house today because the garage found time to do it, so here are some more pictures! I would have posted them earlier, but I had to go to work. The truck is huge, towers over every other vehicle we own. I do plan to keep the 6V system, but we will see.

Great find. I got to admit, I have a weakness for the big ole' rides. I know you are going to enjoy this.

 

You didn't offend me, it just seems that all of the COEs are being turned into car haulers or something similar. I have a passion for originality, so maybe I owe you an apology for making it sound like a retaliation. I also have always had a soft spot for larger trucks, because they can do more and can be a bit intimidating. I am dropping the gas tank tomorrow to drain the water out of it, and I am also going to get a coil. The truck steers pretty easy when rolling, much easier than what I was expecting. The rear end is leaking where the drive shaft meets the pumpkin, so I am going to need a seal of some sort.

The weather cleared up and I jumped on dropping the tank. I got 3 of the 4 supporting arm bolts out, and the last one was not going to move. I found that the tank had a drain hole in the bottom...all of the messing around for nothing. I drained it and found that there was not too much in the tank, just watered down gasoline (all I wanted to get out anyway). So I am going to search for a coil in the morning and a seal for the rear end. I need to find a service manual for this truck, anybody got one?

 

We got it running today, coil problem solved! The truck will not idle, and can't start without the help of a tractor pulling it. The next thing on my list is a junkyard carburetor that I will put a rebuild kit in to replace the pretty much junk one that is in it. After that is brakes. I found the VIN plate on the glove box door, so now I know the rear gearing and tranny (4 speed T-98 and 5.83/ 8.11).
