The distributor should pull right out. Your problem is old sticky varnish underneath the housing is holding it in place. If you keep spraying penatrating oil so it will soak in around the housing, hopefully it will desolve it enough to where it will come out.

I would take the module you just put on back to the store and get it tested. If it's bad, get another under warrenty.

 

I also should mention I have the inline the 6 cylinder model (4.9L).

The distributor housing freely rotates to the left and right. It really feels like there is some sort of pin or something holding it in. Because there is some play when I pull up on the shaft.

I did find a 5/32 hex wrench hole just under the distributor. I tried to unscrew it, but it just freely turns (forever).

I'll see if I can take a pic and put it up.

There's nothing holding it in except the hold down bolt. Here's a procedure.

Weird. Yah, those are the same instructions I have in my manual. Those must be refereing to the V8 model, cause I phreaking yanked and pulled and it ain't going anywhere. (Also the pics they have on that page are different looking than what my distributor looks like)

When I remove the hold down bolt, the whole distributor casing can turn very easily left and right. But I can pull it out. (it has a little play when I pull up on it, not much though)

Other ideas?

Here are pics of my distributor that I can't get out of my 4.9 inline 6 F150 engine. I have taken 3 different pics of the same thing, just from different angles.

I labeled where I found a hole that I found a hex wrench fits into, but it doesn't seem to do anything when I turn it. And I also labeled the normal distributor hold down bolt. (when I remove it, nothing happens, I still yank on it and I can get it off.)

Pull up on it, spray some wd40 in around the housing(or some sort of penetrate) and while pulling up, wiggle it back and forth. Drop it down a little bit, spray some more stuff on it, and pull and wiggle again. Keep a close eye on it, and see if it slowly makes progress.
