1995 Ford F350 Transmission Problems
I have a 95 F350. It has the 460 engine with 4OD transmission. It has been shifting very hard from 2nd to 3rd. The rpm's will go up to 4500 before it will shift. All other shifting is normal and smooth. I changed our the transmission filter and fluids this morning, The shifting is not as pronounced as before but is still there. This transmission is only had 2000 miles on it. The transmission pan, and small amounts of metal at the magnet. Nothing I would be to concerned about. Anything thing else that anyone can think of? Oh by the way the truck has a 12inch lift. Maybe that has soemthing to do with it, not sure.

I am wondering. Since the truck has a 12 inch lift. I have a Dana Rear end. If the main pinion is not getting enough oil. I have heard that if that is the case if would also cause the truck to shift hard from 2nd to 3rd, anyone else heard this. One more thing Were is the speed sensor located. I want to make sure there is no metal on it. Since if there is is, this also might cause the transmission to shift hard.

Do a full trans flush by disconnecting the line at the cooler. Get 4 gallons of fluid and 10' of clear tubing and cut in half. Connect to the lines and put the other end into a large plastic pan. Start truck and let run for 30 seconds and shut off. Estimate amount pumped into the pan and fill trans with that amount. Repeat until fluid is red like new. Piece of cake and should take about a half hour.
