ford 400, aussie heads, cam and compression questions

I have a chance to get a brand new set of aussie heads (new from a build shop), set of hartman sharp diamond roller rockers (new), carter 750, new comp cam (too big for me though 293), a 351M with 1000 miles on it. comes with an engine stand, original heads, New HEI dizzy, new headers dynomax, a full gasket set all for $1350. (is this worth it by the way? It seems to me)

But I am interested in the heads and an Edelbrock performer cam.

1. If I ran these heads on my 400, with the edelbrock performer (204/214 @ 0.50") cam what kind of compression ratio should I expect?

2. Can I run pump gas?

3. He has some beefy dual springs built on the heads for up to .594" lift, can I use these with a performer cam? It is machined for guide plates and roller rocker studs

I just want to bolt em on, and change the cam and see what happens with this 400. I will still have the fresh 351M shortblock if I throw this 400 apart.

id get the heads, and engine. order a 400 crank and tmi's pistons for the aussie heads. i would use a xe262 cam not the edelbrock one. the carb probably will be 100cfm or so too big, but it may work ok.

Thanks! I have a 400 rebuilt about 40K and I want to put these heads on it first. I have a carter 650 I use currently.

Why would you use those pistons? I dont want 12:1 CR or nothing like that. What would these heads do to a stock 400 (.30 over)?

PS he wont sell individually I have to buy the whole package.

jbradleys right, he refers to some 0 deck pistons made by TIM with 30cc of dish to get your cr to 9.5:1 with the aussies, now with stock 400 pistons that are way down in the whole 0.067" and those aussies alone you wont get so much of a quench, so by going with the pistons you can use lower gasoline octane and still be able to run a higher dynamic compresion making more power and fuel economy... J`s right bout the cam choice also...
check the last piston set on the page :

With guidplates you will have to run hardened or heat treated pushrods.

Ok. Will I be able to run stock stamped rocker arms on these heads, along with stock springs? The heads have been machined for guide plates and roller rocker studs.

Reason I ask is I dont know if Ican fit the taller valve covers underneath my AC box on passenger side you know? I am going to be running only an rv cam, nothing radical.

any thoughts?

PS I thought bolting on a set of aussies gives you 10:1 on stock pistons?

G'day Fozzy
My experience is that when heads are machined to suit roller rocker studs.
Material is removed from the heads to enable the fitting of the studs and keep the rocker angles realistic.
You will not be able to run stock (stamped) rockers with these modified heads unless there is a conversion I don't know about.
If you are running a mild cam will you really need taller covers?

I'm in Australia, we didn't have the same AC setup here and had Clevelands as factory.

Hope this helps

Mike
