HELP!! Diff pin won't come out!
Hey guys,
I am working on my 86 B2, 4X4, needing to change the rear axle seals,7.5..
The diff pin lockbolt came right out, whole also, but the diff pin just won't come out. It seems to me that it is hanging up in the one spider gear. The diff pin itself will move about 1/8" and thats all.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it may have spun dry or just failed and welded itself to the pin, hard to say from here! lol
Did you try heating the spider gear first, then knocking the pin out? Heating it may expand it enough to get it off.
It should slide right out of the spiders just a smooth as can be, you may end up having to cut it out if its really that stuck.

I will definitely try the heat tomorrow if its not raining. I ran out of enough light to keep working on it tonight. The heat treatment is starting to sound like the way to go. I hope it works. The funny thing is, this was supposed to be my SPRING project... lol.
I will keep you informed on my progress. Many thanks.

Hey guys.... success!!! Got the axles out and the seals changed. Help I M Stuck was right about enough clearance. There is a channel in the diff pin that allows the axles to be pushed in enough to remove the c-clips.
Worked for me, and I didn't have to beat the gears all up.
Thanks Help I M Stuck!

Glad you figured it out, I was under the impression you couldn't move the pin at all to start with.
Been a while, I took the diff out of a 86 and put it in a 88 some time ago now. I striped another one to scrap the body. I do remember completely removing the pin. Just not if it was before or after removing the axles. I don't know why but for some reason "before" comes to mind but it may not have been till after I had em out.
Anyway hope I didn't add any confusion, posting that it would come all the way out first.

No prob, danr1... On a side note, I just changed the rear axle seals in my 1989 F150 2 days ago. That diff pin slid right out. Lucky for me I guess. The lockbolt came out very easy as well. Hardly had a scratch on it. I did replace it with new though.
Funny how things work out. Thanks for all the input guys!
