4x4 CM testing???

I have a 2001 ranger 4.0ohc, auto 4x4. the 4wd has not been functioning for quite some time, and i have narrowed down that the shift motor works properly, and that the is no voltage to its wiring harness. Due to cost is there a way to test the 4x4 control module and switch to narrow it down further before I drop a lot of money into this? Sadly i am on a limited time frame for the fix ( like i have one week to have the truck finished here in Illinois and be on the road for Arizona.) Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the fuses? Also, if there is an aftermarket radio, they might have tapped for power where they shouldn't have-

Heres a list of 4x4-related fuses to check on your '01:

- Battery junction box (BJB) fuses:
1 (50A)
3 (50A)
13 (20A)
30 (10A)

- Central junction box (CJB) fuses:
28 (7.5A) (manual tranny)
10 (7.5A)
11 (7.5A)
5 (15A)

Measure the voltage between the control module connector pin 1 (OG) and ground; and between the control module connector pin 2 (DG/LG) and ground. Both should be approx. 12V.

thanks for the advice. got it fixed. after testing a ton of this and that i dug out the voltmeter and found i had no voltage going to the shift motor then tested the resistance on the switch. still good there. the motorola controll module was dead.

with the replacement of the 4x4cm and a DPFE sensor the truck seems to be back on its feet for the most part.
