Spark Plug Gap!?

Alright I just recently got back into the added boost club. Might-as-well with my JDM built short block! But I'm having problems with some light tapping noises when I'm just getting into boost around 45-60mph (but before it downshifts!). And when ever I floor it for a extended amount of time. Thought it might be my tune so I quickly adjusted the timing back -4 degrees for the whole rpm band with my xcal2...but the noise is still there (maybe helped a little but not much!). So I re-adjusted it back only -2 degrees all around (where it is now) and about the same results.

So here's my problems

light tapping at 5lbs of boost (acceleration) anywhere from 45-60mph, but before it downshifts!

And the same noise occurs when I floor it for any extended period of time.

...and yes I'm using Premium

Mods

Amazon Tuning Solutions- tune for the following

4lb lower and RPM outlet's motoblue upper running at a total of 12-13lbs
intake and exhaust
NGK TR6's gaped at 35
boost,airfuel (NB) and fuel
Mafia at #2
xcal2

I think that covers it
Thanks!

Nothing wrong with that gap, especially at 5 lbs of boost. Put the Xcal2 on the truck and datalog the knock sensors, and the timing advance, see what's happening there to see if it needs to be ruled out. Log the IAT as well. Do yo have access to a wide-band? It could also be too lean if the MAF isn't normalized.

Where in Georgia are you located?

Ok cool, but I’m not real familiar with the xcal2 data logging tool. Do I just plug a laptop to the xcal2 (with the software installed) then to my truck and follow the instructions or is it harder then I think? No I don’t have access to a WB (but taken it back to the dyno might be the answer to that). Also could I just turn the MAFia a position up or down to rule out the MAF and see if that takes care of it?

I live in Augusta GA

Another thing- I pulled #4 spark plug yesterday and nothing looked lean about it. It was a nice brownish/gold color

You pretty much just plug in the tuner to the truck then that into a laptop if you want to datalog live. The SCT software (available on their site) will let you select the PIDs to log. If you don't have a lap top an Xcal2 can datalog directly into its memory. You have to first connect it to your PC and set up the PIDs you want it to log. Looks like you've done your homework as far as air/fuel goes so I'd concentrate on the timing to see what the advance is. If it needs to be pulled back you'd want these logs so its pulled back only where needed. At light cruise you can run a ton of timing without problems and you don't want to back off globaly because this cruise timing really helps mileage.

alright here's the numbers after WOT at 85 Degrees outside.

50-80mph:

Spark moved from 15.5 to 17.0
Load was around 1.61
MAF ad counts peaked at around 811
all at a downstream temp of 120

from 0-60:

Load was around 1.59
Spark was 15.5 to 18.5 (18.5 was at peak RPM)

I noticed when I was crusing at 45-50mph and started to get into boost (2-4lbs) my spark dropped to 9.3 (Load 1.08)...interesting

Crusing:

Load - 0.57
Spark - 26.5
MAF ad counts - 361

What do you think I need to do?

Also I can send all three of my data logs if you want!

Thanks

Is it possible to get assistant for a cruise tune?

I have SCTx2 and laptop (and have 2 files on SCTx2) with my dynojet race tune and stock tune but as I read more and more a good tuner could greatly enhance a file just for cruising on the road 50-85 MPH counldn't they??

I have to do a lot of traveling at times.

Man, i wish i knew what files to address !!
