I know that this maybe late seeing that we are already in July. I am just curious if the members here are interested in a Get Together sometime this year ????. Personally it would be nice to see others that we type at all the time and to be able to put a face with the name.... lol.
I know that the state is very large and it would be difficult for members in downstate or LI to make something up in this area or visa versa, and the price of gas does not help. If there is a group that live in the same area we could have regional meets for those people.
I remember that a few years ago there was a group that got togehter in the fall at Letchworth State Park in Muddyaxles (Dave's) area.

Let us use this thread for brain storming purposes and see what everyone thinks so please feel free to post up. Suggestions for possible outings would be car shows, tours, festivals, etc.

 

Well I see that a few people have viewed this thread but no one else has posted in the 10 days that it has been up. Does anyone have any suggestions or would you rather hold off until a later date ????

Thanks for the offer Bob.... we will have to see if anyone else chimes in here with some suggestions. Your area would be very pretty in the fall with the foliage changing.

I think the gas issue is the biggest problem. Then again we seem to have the same 3 people show up for every meet.

 

Yeah Dave, I do believe that is having a very large impact on everything that people do today and I do not blame them.

In our case, the state is so large that if someone lived on Long Island and lets say that we had a meet in the Albany area, I think that they would be looking at a 4 hour drive to get there. Someone in the Buffalo area, it would take them about 5 or 6 hours.

 

I undersatnd that also,
We had one meet at Jr's that would have been 2hrs+ for me CL or not I just couldn't afford it and drive 45 miles a day for work.

Heck I can make it to Rochester in 6.

Neil, I would think for as big as NY is sub chapters would
work well and then a full chapter meet every couple months
or so.

 

Greetings all, I'm new to the forum but will chime in here with my place of employment as, at least, a possible stopping-off point: the International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen, NY. For those not familiar with the area, Watkins Glen is at the southern tip of Seneca Lake in the Fingrlakes and is known for a state park, and to gear heads/racing fans, a world-class racing circuit (which, by the way, can be driven on in your street car, behind a pace car of course).

We host our annual open house on October 4 this year, with a guest speaker and a "garage sale" of racing memorabilia. However, any weekend in late Sep. Oct. is prime for leaf peeping, etc. Lots of car clubs tour through the area. In fact, we have a Packard club stopping by in August.

Anyhow, for your viewing pleasure, we have a 427 Cobra replica on hand (our annual raffle car-- I promise I won't push ticket sales too hard...) and, with any luck, a pre WW2 Maserati Grand Prix car. For more info about us: www.racingarchives.org.

 

Good to hear from you Efft.... that sounds like a fun thing to do. Heck if we don't end up having an official G2G I may just make the hour drive down Route 14 to Watkins Glen to visit.

Geesh how many wineries are around just Seneca Lake ???? I will tell you how many, A LOT....LOL. Several years ago my wife and I did the Deck the Halls wine tour that is held in November. We stopped at every participating winery and I lost count after around 20!!!!

I will keep that in mind about the ride in the Cobra... I am sure that it is a sweet ride.

 

they now limit you on how many stops you can make at wineries as it was a thing for people to drive from place to place getting samples so they could get crocked and causing accidents lol

 

Well on that day I was the designated driver and let me say that my wife did pretty good unitl we stopped at the Finger Lakes Champange House. That bubbly really hit her hard and fast.
