Does this boidiesel recipe sound right to you guys??

30 Gallons of used oil

6.6 Gallons of methanol

567.9 grams of lye/or 20 ounces

---the oil is very, very clean and almost brand new in this batch...do those numbers look correct?

What kind of lye? What did the oil titration show?

i have Rooto Household 100% lye....and in my titration i ended up adding 2/5 of 1 ml of the lye/water solution, which i think would be .0004 g/L...right? then plugged these numers in the bio-diesel recipe calculator online, and i got 567.9 grams.

Rooto is NaOH.

Your titration didn't take much. You could just use the base amount. Base for NaOH is 5g/liter. So for 30 gallons, you would need about 600g or 1.3 pounds.

I would use a little more methanol than that. Some use 20% and some use 25% so you're in the ballpark.

I'm not familiar with that brand of lye, but my buddy just started making bio with brand new corn/soy oil blend (right out of the unopened containers) and is using sodium hydroxide NaOH, and according to his titration methods, the new oil required 580 grams lye for 25 gallons of oil.

Seems to me like you might be going a bit light on the lye...

12-24 hours recommended.

I usually let it sit overnight and take care of it the next day.

You need to maintain 130 during processing.

If I am not washing my fuel, should my base amount of lye be 3.5 g/L instead of 5. i plan on dry washing my fuel soon, but for now i am running unwashed in my old 86. so what do you think.

5 gm/lt for NaOH
7 gm/ltr for KOH ( 100%)
7.8 gm/ltr for 90% KOH

And I would never run "raw" biodiesel.....................
