thanks for your advice guys. another question, i was talking to my friend the other day and he strongly advised me to avoid any V8 and up trucks altogether as i wont even get a quote on insurance.. is this correct as it seems rather odd, i used to believe you could get quoted on anything if you look hard enough. im not too bothered how much the insurance is to be honest, just so long as i can get it. my friend said he was refused a quote on his V8 Transam because of the engine size. im confused =[

Call it a sneakin' sus-pishen but if he's dropping 40 large and wants a luxury and chrome packages, I don't see him jacking it up and throwing some 37s under it, then sticking it in a few feet of mud. If he does, he needs to get his head shrunk. You just don't spend $40,000 on a mud truck.
OP- I don't know how ya'll insure trucks, but you're not going to get anything like you want with smaller than a V8 in it. I would start looking at buying something that's already on the island with you. Export fees if you buy something in the US, shipping, all that jazz is going to jack up the price. Even with 20,000 pounds you're gonna get a lot less truck after that than buying something domestic to your country.

there are already quite a few US built trucks over here so chances are i'd buy one from here anyway, the import option was only going to be a last resort as there are many cost with imports as well as getting the lights changed to euro spec etc, i should have mentioned im 17 which is why i was asking about insurance.
the reason i was wanting off road ability on the truck is because i sometimes take my dad to the horse racing and its very muddy down there lol
