pros and cons to a 6.0??

I have been looking at f450 or 550s for a couple of months now. Been looking for a 7.3 as I love the two I have, but I have come across what might be a really good deal on an 05 XLT CC 4x4 F450 due to the fact that the dealer has been sitting on it for a few months. I was hoping to find a 450 I could buy straight out and keep my pickup, but this 05 is a little over that so I am considering trading my F350. I would like to hear the pros and cons to the 6.0. What are the real problem areas some have? What do you guys really like about them?

Thanks

The first thing I would do is get an OASIS for the truck. Check out the top of the page for this forum for a request.

The dealer said they would run it for me. It is a small dealership and I am dealing with the owner. He said he ran it when the PO traded it in and he doesnt recall any issues.

If it checks out good on the report, keep the fluids and filters changed regularly, DO NOT IDLE it, drive it hard here and there, and you should have a good truck!!

Best thing in these engines is to keep the oil changed at 5K and change fuel filters every other oil change. These engines are very sensitive to oil quality and fuel pressure/quality. I have found a place I can get premium fuel and it has worked very well over the years. These engines also will give you lots of power. Check to see if engine 5yr/100K will be transferred to you.

I have a 03 6.0 F-450 truck runs good just had the turbo replaced but otherwise its been good.

Run the truck hard and keep up on the maintenance you should be good to go. Use only Motorcraft filters as they are made by Racor specifically for the 6.0 engine. I use Delo 400 15w-40LE engine oil it is the highest rated oil Chevron makes.

Hey mudmaker, it's been awhile.

I have the 05 F350, and I love it. Like they said about the maintenance, I usually go the the dealership, I know my service writer. I use the syn. oil and do change the oil regularly.

What kind of towing are you going to do? I recently bought a Mag Hytec tranny pan, it holds an extra 8 quarts of tranny fluid. Also the 4 guage pillar set-up. It's just a peace of mind.

Plus I installed a SS steel MBRP 4" turbo back, that helps alot. I don't have any complaints or problems to date. (Great, now with that stated, watch me start having problems. Damn Murphy's Law!LOL) I hope it works out for you, they're nice rigs. BTW I did get the pictures of your trailer mods out of the towing section. Nice!

Do the 04 F450 have the coils up front? I know the 05 do.

You'll love the power and the ride.

Hey it has been a while since we talked.

The one I am looking at is an 05 w/ the coils up front. I need something a little heavier to pull my backhoe around. I am moving to CO and I need it more mobile than I have had it here. I hauled it down there a couple of weeks ago and I felt sorry for my pickup. I have been looking at 450/550s w/ 7.3's but anything w/ less than 150k miles are almost as much as i am going to have to spend on an 05 w/ 35k miles. Right now I am trying to sell my 02 F350 so I dont have to go too far in debt on the 05. It is tough as I love my 02, but it is only a pickup.

BTW if you know someone who needs a 43' long 30k gvw gooseneck let me know. I want to sell it and get a 30' tandem axle 24k gvw one.

Hey mudmaker, it's been awhile. I had to get a new computer, my old one just had too many viruses.

The 6.0 will work out good for you.

What $ for the trailers?

Talk to you soon.
