6.9-7.3 swap in 73-79 F250 4x4
Been reading about swapping a 6.9 or 7.3 diesel into the dentside trucks, namely a 76 F250 4x4.
I seen the fordcummins site, and I personally don't like cummins, too noisy and they seem to belch alot of smoke. Besides that they are intended for dodges.
It's too bad Cat doesn't seem to have any 6.0-7.0 turbo V8's.
Or maybe I should just wait, fuel prices will kill everything's value soon, and could get a decent powerstroke 4x4 for cheap and leave my ol 76 as is.
After riding in a friends modded powerstroke, and he was having traction problems with 38's and auto trans on dry pavement-it was fun! Plus he still gets 18-22mpg.
Does anyone have some pics of any work done, or completed installs??

I'm very satisfied with the amount of power. The most of a load I've had on it was abt. 2000 lbs. in the bed and I didn't see much if any difference in accel..
The only thing I'm going to change will be an overdrive or od. trans. to bring the rpms down.
I'm getting 14-15 mpg around town, have'nt checked hwy. mpg. yet.
My Banks is the old non wastegate which I see maxing out around 10 lbs. boost.

I am in the process of putting a 7.3 idi non turbo in my 76 f-250. The swap is not hard. I am using a c-6 trans that mounted up in the stock location and used the stock driveline. I also am using front engine mounts on mine to avoid the hassle of side mounts. The stock front mounts are 120.00 new from ford. They were used in F-700 and F-800 trucks.

The "stock" crossmember in mine is actually from a f150, my truck started life as a 2 wd f250.
I used all 150 bits because I wanted a coil sprung front end.
Update on power: I installed a mild (typ 4) cam, head studs, 4" exhaust, typ 4 compressor mod and a bull moose injection pump
which really woke the truck up.
