Ok folks, has anyone had problems with there coil packs. Ford will not warranty them nor under extended warranty. I have had a total of 6 gone bad over the last year and the truck has under 40,000 miles on it. The truck is driven by my wife only 14 miles a day and never see's mud or 4wd except the in the winter.

Is there a brand of coil pack other than "ford" that is worth a darn?

 

If all 6 coils went bad in the last 4,000 miles there has to be some issue other than the coils themselves I would think. Do you power wash your engine? have you had the ignition system checked out? If the coils were failing before your 3/36 expired they should have been replaced by the dealer at no charge.

 

Unfortunately the most recent coil packs that puked out were after the 3/36 and evidently my extended 100,000 mile warranty does not cover coil packs which is a bunch of crap. If there is an oil leak that is covered.......go figure. I was asked the same by ford that "have I washed under the hood" and I have not so they proceded to blame it on the recent snow storm we had here which to me that dog dont hunt that after two weeks had gone by that the water didnt cook off. Evidently the plug holes were full of water which caused the said coil packs to go bad. But that does not explain the first coil packs that went bad last summer which there was drought like conditions. this bill hit me for $600.00 which is not cool.

 

Another funny thing is everytime I had taken it in for acting up the vehicle never spits out a code nor does the check engine come on. Something does not add up. This thing stumbled badly till it got to the dealership with no lights or codes but during a ride alond with one of the mech's with their computer plugged in going down the road picked up on the bad coil packs. This truck has has so many problems since new it is crazy that ford will not do something about it. Talking to Ford corporate was like talking to a door **** trying to convince them to deam this truck a lemon. At the same time I cant afford to trade the damn thing in. I have had phasers go out twice, the passenger cylinder head has just been replaced not long ago, Transmission issues, brake booster, rear diff not shimmed correctly, coil packs, camber kit on the front end because they couldnt get it to align correctly, fuel sending unit, fuel pump and to top it off the last visit they raised the truck to high in a stall and creased my roof close to the windshield then tried to say they didnt do it but I won that arguement. I just cant get a brake with this pile. My 67 f100 and 79 F150 has never had major issues and I pound on them and totaly drive the 05 like an old man.

 

look in to the lemon law in your state, cause it sounds like you have one. I have almost 6k on my 05 and have not had any issues.

 

Unfortunately I bought it in Anchorage, Alaska so I dont think South Dakota will cover that seeing it wasnt bought here in South Dakota however I will be moving back to Alaska next summer so maybe I can get something done about it when I get back there provided it makes it that long and I dont drive it off a cliff.

 

I don't think the Lemon Law is applicable. I may be wrong but I think that the Dealer has 3 trys to resolve a specific problem. Correct me if I misunderstood, but although it appears you have had a ton of problems they have been resoloved/fixed. I have to tell you, that is not normal for these trucks. My company has tons of trucks, Ford, Chevy, Toyota and Nissan. Actually the Toyota Tundra's and Nissan Titan have been the problem trucks. Our 05 Fords have anywhere from 80 to 110,000 miles on them with nothing but wear and tear items. Oh yea, one throttle body and two sets of bad front brakes. Good luck!
