351W to C-6 transmission

Anyone have any experience with a 351W EFI to a C-6 transmission? Someone told me that only a E40D transmission will work. I'm hoping that the C-6 will work. I sure that I will have to get a new flexplate and probably a new wiring harness. Any suggestions? Thanks

351W to C-6 transmission

88 Fords had the fuel injected 351W with the C-6 transmission in big Broncos, F150's 4X4's, I don't know about 2 wheel drives though.

351W to C-6 transmission

I put a "small block C6" behind an 1980 302 in a 76 F100. The bell housing should be the same on your 351W. I believe that Small block C6s came in a lot of 80's vintage Vans w/ 302, 351W and also I found my Flexplate from a 73 Cougar that I think had a 351C. I've been told that the balance counterweight on 351W stayed 28oz until the end of it's production whereas the 302 (5.0) changed in the middle of the 80's to a 50 oz counterweight. I did have to relocate my transmission crossmember back a couple of inches but that was just a matter of having a couple of holes drilled. I also had to have my driveline shortened and a different end put on it. Beware, there are many C6's for big blocks with different bellhousing patterns.

Better check on 302 and 351W being same at the bell housing . I don,t think so. 260,289,302 are the same. 351W is different bolt pattern . 351W will work with the correct C6 tranny.Don't have to be AOD.

The 260 and the early 289s (first half year run) had a five bolt bell housing. Since then all 289s, 302s, 351Ws, 351Cs, and 300/240s have run the same 6 bolt bellhousing bolt pattern. There were at least two bellhousing though one to clear the smaller flexplates and one to clear the 351Cs and 351Ws on the C-4s. I believe all C-6s had the room in the bell to clear the larger flexplate. Not sure on that part though.

I can't see any reason why an EFI engine would need any particular transmission.
A computer controlled transmission might need a particular engine, however.
