My amazing 1999 F150 4.8 V8 2WD ExtraCab with 235000 miles.
Runs smooth as a sewing machine.

The truck just started with this issue
driving normal at any speed
the engine dies suddenly
the theft light is blinking
will not restart

Once this happened when my battery was dead and had to be replaced.
Replacing the battery solved the issue.

The battery is 12 months old and turns over the engine with lights on (as a test of the battery)

Today the truck would not start and the Theft light was blinking.
Just a few minutes ago the truck did start but the Theft light is still on and blinking.......

Any assistance resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Im not too familiar with the theft system, but did you drop your keys into water?(if it has a PATS key) Someone who is more familar with the antitheft system should be here soon, to help remedy your problem.
Also i wasnt aware of ford making a 4.8l V8.... anyways welcome to FTE .

Yes, I have the........ 4.6 V8........

I do have the PATS computer chip key system.
It has not been soaked in water but we have had lots of rain.. that is nothing new so not sure why it would cause a problem now....

I wonder if the anti theft device, is controlled by the GEM module?
Some of these trucks came with a faulty windshield seal.. which in some cases gets the GEM module wet, then certain thing start to go crazy.
