Caught! Ford's Upcoming Scorpion 6.7-Liter Diesel V8

Reliable sources reveal that what's under the hood of this test truck is much more important to Ford. It's the all new, Ford designed 'Scorpion' 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine that will replace the current Navistar supplied 6.4-liter V8 Power Stroke by 2011.

So is this an in house engine that Fords developing on their own? If so its about damn time.

I just wish they'd do something different with the front ends of those trucks, that thing is dog ugly.

It's a development mule, they usually are ugly.

That truck has the 2008 chrome grille and the 2008 work truck headlights, and I doubt that hood is going to be the production 2010 hood.

I'm just wondering if they are going to call the Scorpion a PowerStroke or not.

Besides the "raised" hood and different headlights, ( which you state are on production SD's ) there is nothing different from the "development mule" and what you can go buy off the lot today.

As for using the PowerStroke "name", I don't know how beneficial it would be for Ford to use that name. ( and depending if Navistar owns it )

My bet is they will want a clear seperation between old and new therefore dropping the PS nameplate in favor of Scorpion or something like it...

They probably wouldn't have given it the name "Scorpion" if they were going to call it a Powerstroke...

PowerStroke is ford's name. They also use it on a small diesel in the ranger sold in other countries

Scorpions a code name, engines and other projects are often given code names before the final thing is ready

With the price of deisel I hope they spend a LONG time working on making the engine get better fuel economy. 700 ft lbs at 25+MPG would be great.

You mean like Modular, Hurricane, Cyclone, Lion, Puma, etc? Scorpion is a code name and most likely will not be the engines badge name.

the test mules are just slapped together to make them road legal, look how out of place the bumper is, holes in the grill, holes in the fender, all stuff you don't see on the trucks out at the dealer lots.

25+MPG would be great but given the 8000lb curb weight and brick like aerodynamics, it just isn't going to happen.

Like I said, besides the hood and other headlights, nothing is that different.
