Swaping 302's
I have just bought a 5.0 HO from a 1991 mustang and was wondering what I am going to need to swap that into a 1991 F-150 with the Nite option. What problems with the computer or anything like that does anybody see. This is the first time I have swapped EFI engines/ Ford engines. I would think that it would be fairly simple to do. But is there anything I need to keep my head up about.
thanks

I have several posts asking same questions. I have yet to get an answer. From what I have been able to find out so far, you will have to swap out the oil pan and oil pump pick up tube. A mustang pan will not work in a truck. The pcv valve in the Mustang is in the intake the truck is in the valve cover, I bought aftermarket valve covers with the holes in them for 40.00 rather than reuse truck valve covers. I have been told by numerous people including some that are very knowledgeable that this swap might work or it might not. The Mustang used a Mass Air Flow sensor, the truck uses a Speed Density sensor. You can do the research but from what I understand the Mustang HO cam is on the edge of what the stock truck computer can handle. I have yet to talk to anyone who has done this swap. I was told to change the cam to a stock truck cam or go with a slight mod aftermarket Crane 364112 was suggested with new push rods and timing chain will run around 250.00 I found a new pan at a local auto parts store for 60.00 but have had to return 2 of them because 1 was bent on the sealing edge and 1 an imperfection on the front seal area. I am still waiting for the new one. I am still undecided on what to do. The firing order on the 2 engines is also different. Good luck and let me know how you make out.

What is the purpose in these swaps? If it's just to get a fresh engine under the hood, dress the mustang engine with all the truck stuff and it would probably work. Trying to use the mustang FI system in the truck will probably be a nitemare in wiring and plumbing modifications, and you probably won't be happy with the results. The intake systems are different because the truck engine needs the torque to move a heavy truck. The mustang engine is designed to move a lighter weight car.

Horsepower gain/torque gain and picked up 92 302 HO roller motor with b303 cam with 15,000 miles since rebuild for 750.00. Stock motor was 180/270 302 roller is 225/300. My 91 Bronco has 144,000 with blown headgasket. It was 1000.00 to do head job with motor in figured time to change motor

This is what you will need to do....
1. Take everything off of the mustang block and use just the block, heads, and harmonic balancer.
2. Use your intake, valve covers, oil pan, pickup tube, and everything else.
3. Swap the distributer gear from the mustang and install it in the truck distributer.
4. Hook everything else up they way to took it apart.
5. Swap the spark plug wires around to accomidate to your new firing order.
6. Do a Mass Air Conversion.
7. Drive and enjoy.
You can do the swap without a Mass Air Conversion but it will probably not be much different from your current setup. You may even get worse gas mileage. I have done it both ways and the MAC is a much better way to go.
There is no need to swap fuel injector firing order.

The problem is the mass air conversion. The 91 and later Broncos have the E4OD trans which I don't think your F-150 has. The kit runs 1400.00 not including the Mustang computer or the Mass air meter. I was told can probable pick them up for around another 300.00. Who wants to spend 1700.00 on the conversion. Plus you have to piggy back the modules. 1 runs the trans the other runs the motor. I found a guy who would do a harness for 750.00 but no guarantees. I guess you could swap for an AOD trans from a Mustang but there again your looking for adapters and trans cost. I really wasn't looking for HP gains just a decent motor and was lied to by person who sold me the motor stating it's a drop in. Now he refuses to return my calls. My bad next time I will research better. I should have checked here first.
