My how the tables have turned!!

This has been a bad week for Toyota, they have "extended the warranty on the Tacoma's, recalled 540,000 Matrix and Corolla's and 630,000 vans in Japan, and finally the NHSTA launched and investigation on another set of Tacoma's.

They are having a crappy year for quality problems. It started out pretty minor, but it seems to be snowballing.

Yes we know.

And what does that have to do with recalling cars and minivans?

Tacoma's aren't considered 1/2 ton trucks.

Tundra's are considered 1/2 trucks, and the NHTSA lists no recalls on Tundra's.

I think Toyota is a victim of their own success - where they used to watch quality really close, now they're so anxious to get more units out the door, with more unneccessary technological upgrades, they don't pay that close of attention anymore.

That said, personally I'd never own one of the uncomfortable little things (and that includes the Tundra) - but I will give them credit for their strive to make a quality product in years past.

That's because they call them "benefits to customer" instead of recalls.

Recalls on Toyotas do not make Fords better....

...this is the same mentality as "Johnny stole two candy bars and I only stole one"....

I applaud Ford's successes in quality, and hope that they can continue to improve quality of their vehicles, both for the first 90 days of "initial quality" and for 200,000 miles as well, on all of their vehicles. Whenever I can do it in good conscience, I'll try to buy a Ford product and also will try to recommend one to a friend or co-worker who asks.

Toyota and Honda have a very good record of long-term reliability, and each of them have had their problems too...but on a lot of the automotive forums I've visited over the years, it seems that someone with a nightmare Explorer or other domestic vehicle, especially after receiving bad treatment from a dealer or from Ford's corporate policies, often says "I'll never buy a Ford again", or "I'll never buy domestic again". And that hurts. I'm a Detroiter and we ain't doing really well around here...all I can do is hope we can do better. That has nothing to do with how well or how badly Toyota does. It takes years to build a good reputation, and a bad reputation can be had in a very short time.

Well so far my 2007 Toyota Tundra has been absolutely trouble free. No recalls on mine either.
