Several questions regarding fitting roller rockers to a 302 EFI.... (1) Do all roller rockers require the use of taller valve covers (and, I'm assuming, a spacer to raise the upper intake manifold so it will clear)? Or, (2) Can you use the stock valve covers after removing some or all of the baffles? And, finally, I've been window shopping for valve covers (in case I'd need to change them) and have noticed that many that are listed for the 289-302-351W have a footnote that reads " * Not for EFI applications". Any idea what the difference would be? (assuming the stock EFI application used stamped steel rockers?) Thanks in advance!

Removing the baffles allows you to run pedestal mount roller rockers. The FRPP valve cover will work with EFI but you have to add a 1" intake spacer, then you have to worry about hood clearance (on a Mustang)

 

Some of the non EFI valve covers are designed to be used on non emissions vehicles that have breather vents on the valve covers and are not set up for a pcv valve.

I'm not terribly concerned with hood clearance, as the application is an '85 Bronco, so I'm guessing that my other option would be the FRPP covers and spacer.

 

i just installed comp cam's roller tip magnium rockers in my 89 5.0. i used there stud kit. everything went togeather well using stock covers.

14trax used the magnums which I believe have the stamped body with the roller tip. The Crane(Cobra) 1.7 rollers have the bigger aluminum body. I personally dig both the FRPP E-302 valve covers (too tall without the intake spacer) and the '83 finned "powered by Ford" covers which I had polished and cut out the baffles. I also sorta like the stepped aluminum cover that came on late '80's early 90's HO 5.0's. same baffles as the '83 covers.

You can drill any cover for PCV etc.

 

Sounds good. Since I'm keeping the truck emissions legal (at least visually, and if I can build it right, the engine should pass the sniffer), I'd kind of like to keep the stock look. But, what the heck!? I'll probably never get a better excuse to put some sexier valve covers on it!
