Is it a faint clicking sound you can only hear with the hood open? If so, it's most likely your injectors.

However, if it's not faint, and you can hear it clearly with the hood closed, especially if it sounds a little like an exhaust leak when you step away from the truck, you need to check you plugs NOW.

Do not drive it until you have removed the COP's and using a socket (plug removal socket) check each and every plug for tightness.

Make sure no plugs are loose, because they make a ticking sound just before they launch.

Tighten them down to 12 - 13 foot pounds of torque.

Sounds like a loose plug.

There was a faint ticking sound for the last week, and when i turned my truck on yesterday it became much louder. If the plug launched Can i drive to a garaged or should i get towed? What are COP's?

The ignition system on Gen 2 L's is a Coil Over Plug system (aka COP). You have one for ever plug, and they look like this.

Remove your coil over plug and check each spark plug to make sure they are tight.

The heads on the Ford modular engines (pre-2003) are notorious for launching plugs.

If the plug launches, yes, you can drive it to a garage.

When mine launched a plug a few year back, I was going to unplug the injector and drive it 8 hours south of me to have an insert put in. The only reason I didn't was because the extreme, obnoxious exhaust noise would have been way too much for me to handle for an 8 hour trip.
