Muscle Truck Shoot out on Trucks
They took a 1994 F-150 Lightning and 1990 Silverado SS and matched them up, overall the Lightning made more power over the rear wheels, handled better, stopped better and has a better transmission. They are going to be building them up and matching them up again.

I watched that yesterday and have been waiting to see it since they talked about it at the end of last season. I like the Ford alot better than the GM, but IDK a 454 vs. a 351? unless they are not staying n/a i don't know if it's much of a contest. It will be intersting to see. Why did Ford not go with a mild 460 in the original L?

The 454SS SUCKED!
Funny as it might sound, when I was in high school I wrote a report comparing these two trucks
The 454SS was nothing but a TBI 454 from the 3/4 & 1 ton trucks dropped into an 2WD half ton. Might have been lowered slightly, but otherwise there was nothing special about the truck at all.
The Lightning actually had multipoint injection, tweaked suspension, and it was lowered, among other things.
I think that kid will have his hands full if he wants that chebby to run with the lightning. I'm wondering what kind of budget they're gonna set for themselves for that "competition."

I dont like them new guys on trucks. They seem to favor the chevy's and are all about lowering or "slamming". Which I think is pointless. I miss Stacey David what happend to him did he quit or something? I have seen his new show gears, but its not as good as trucks used to be. Sorry had to vent that some where....
Any ways, I wonder if they are going to mod them equaly or just put on what ever they can get.

The new guys aren't as good but they're MUCH better than the TruckU **** (pardon the french guys) and just about all the others on the PowerBlock. Extreme4x4 can't build a rig to save their soul - everything breaks on the trail. I wouldn't ever want them working on my trucks.
Stacey David has a pretty entertaining background if you have a few minutes to look him up. Worked up from scratch, plays guitar, etc.
I watched that Trucks as it was recorded, thankfully. I have been waiting for that one for a long time. I was sorta shocked to see the Lightning pull that one out but I think the 454 will respond pretty nicely to mods, if they can get the power out of it. It should be a pretty stout motor. The 351 will be nice as well but I think it might fall short of the torque the 454 can make later on. Time will tell, and hopefully I won't have to eat my words. I can say this - the Ford WILL win, and I know I won't have to eat those words lol.

What i find really funny is that the 454 is suppose to have 405 lb-ft and it only had 300 and the lightning has 320 which is about right. They did also mention the chevy's tranny was having some kind of problem i guess.
My money is going to be on the lightning. I say a turbo set up would do the job.

I am trying to figure out why the L made so much power. It was a hair over 200hp at the wheels, take your 15-20% out and it should be running in the mid 200's. I always thought they only made 230ish. So what was the advertised BHP on the Gen 1's? I was expecting 190hp max and was surprised with the 200+. Really funny that a 454 couldn't even break 200 though. I think the chevy can easily win overall unless they have a really low budget, but it sounds like it is unlimited so the extra 100 chevy cubes will kill the L in the end.

I agree with Frankie. A turbo or twin turbos (but that just wouldnt be fair )will give it to the lightning. Plus if they do this right most if not all of the lightnings budget should go for engine mods because its already got sport suspension and brakes. The ss is going to need that stuff in order to win the overall.

I found this article here. on a 93 lightning vs a 454 SS
http://www.stangbangers.com/93_Light...SS_Article.htm
What is funny that the Dakota had more of trailer towing rate than the 454 SS.
