anyone know anything about this tranny bought this truck tonite only to find it has no reverse (auction) bought it well worth the money,good int and engine (300) and runs like a bat outta hell all cept reverse. any tricks or am I buying another transmission for it? Anyone know where to find rebuilt info?

 

Good thing is the E4OD is a pretty stout tranny and there are upgrades you can get for it.....You could get it rebuilt but if you do get it done with hardened and heavier duty parts than OEM...or take it to a guy who has a habit of doin em for the Gen 1 Lightnings (Same tranny)Luck

Do you know that its just completely shot in reverse? If not, replace the fluid/filter and clean out everything. This sometimes helps, and costs much less than a new/rebuilt tranny...
Alltho If you plan on doing any towing with it, its a pretty good idea to get it rebuilt and put on a beefier cooler setup.

 

I don't know a heck of alot about them, but all I've been hearing is that their really expensive to get rebuilt. I've heard upwards of 2K, but if your planning on keeping it i'd say it's worth it.

could be fluid level or the elec. switch on side of trans. or shifter is out of alignment.

 

yeah, also, check that the shifter linkage (on the driver side of the tranny) is properly aligned. If you do a search for it, you can find out how to ensure proper alignment.

 

The MLPS is the first thing I'd replace. It translates the lever position into an electronic signal to the tranny. If for some reason it's not telling the tranny to go into reverse, it won't go.

 

mlps=manual lever position switch.

that was the elec. switch i was talking about.
