intake + mpg

First posting and need help between Volant or k&n for 2003 F150 supercrew with 5.4 and towing package. Unbelievably I consistently get 11.5MPG unloaded in the city and need to know how to bring this up some. Any input appreciated, been browsing (sponging) for quite a few months. There are no mods to my truck currently. Thanks in advance. BTW - tried driving conservatively for over a month and mileage still never broke over 11.75MPG

I currently have the K&N drop in filter

Don't know if it'll help but I just put in the K&N FIPK cool air intake on my V10. I reset the vehicle's MPG computer as soon as I hit the road and went from MPG pegged at 10.4 immediately to 13.8 with highway driving for about 50 miles. By the time I got home about 2 hours later after some stop and go and surface streets, I came down to 12.5. The truck has is the F250 CC 4x4 with 35" Toyos and 4" lift with 100k miles and I drove around 65mph on the hwy. I don't know if my numbers are real or not but it certainly is encouraging.

i got an intake on my ranger. when i first put it on the gas felt alittle more touchy not much but just alittle. it makes a cool noise but for MPG i don't know. HW i get 20-22 at 55-60 and city it sucks just like yours at around 12 driving good keeping the revs under 2K.

my intake was about $100 for a knock off type u could say. Now with the exhaust i don't know if it changed at all. Id do some more research b4 i would drop like $300 on one tho. $300 is alot of gas. well was alot till it hit $3.69.

I try not to drive my truck alot and just use my motor bike on nice days.

I opened up the intake snorkle on my 02 4.0 Explorer & I don't know how much it helped on gas mileage but throttle responce is great now & it just feels better. I picked up a used box at a local parts place today just in case I ever need to go back stock.
