I have the chance to buy a 351C out of a Torino and I picked out a whole list of what Im going to put into it. I planned this engine not to be a dog at all. I want this to be pretty snappy. Here is what I put in it:
Summit Rebuild Kit 10.22:1 CR
Crane PowerMax Cam and Lifters (Cant find the specs but it had about a .530 lift)
Manley Stainless Intake and Exhaust Valves
Comp Cams Springs
Summit Oil Pump (High Volume)
Summit Timing Chain (True Roller)
Weiand X-CELerator intake manifold
Edelbrock 750 CFM
Heddman Headers
With all of this stuff and some good ARP fasteners for the engine and a little chrome my bill came out to $1963.39. Not too bad, I least I didnt think it was. This engine will probly see 6000 a few times in its life cuz I love to street race and go to the drags. Can anyone tell me if this thing will be snappy enough or should I get some more goodies??
Thanks

I am in the process of building the same motor with the same things (ro similar things) and I would like to contact you and ask you for some detailed info from your rebuild. But one question can be answered right now. How much power is that going to make and what heads do you have?

This engine is a 351C 2V and you can get Manley Stainless Valves for them in Jegs or Summit I found them in both. These may be for the 4V but the 2V heads can be machined to accept them so Im using them. This engine isnt built yet, In fact its still sitting in the Torino. But I still dont know what kind of power this thing is gonna make. Anyone got any ideas?? Oh yea and Mustang70 my email is bcd_bcd(No Email Addresses In Posts!) if you wanna contact me.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jan-02 AT 12:50 PM (EST)]Nitro,
351C 2V engines were factory rated at 163-177hp (using SAE net "real" numbers) with 9.3-9.45:1 compression, stock exhaust systems, and stock Autolite 2100 2V carbs.
I'd concur with xyfalcon500 and guess that you should get close to 300hp with all the mods you're listing, especially the higher compression, camshaft, 4V carb, and headers.

yeah... about the factory output numbers... ford australia quoted 240-260 flywheel horsepower for the 351 2v 2bbl released here (from 1970-78 or so, spanning a few models), but it only actually made about 205 flywheel horsepower, tested with the stock motor out of the car on an engine dyno. Why the discrepency is so large is hard to explain, other than a marketing tool used by Ford.

With the Ausie clevos the 302, (2v) had between 200 and 250 hp, depending on year of manufacture. The 2v 351 had 230-250hp, depending on maunufacture, the 4v (GT) Clevo had 300hp and the 4v (GTHO) clevo had 380hp. Ford Australia actually said the gtho's had 300 hp for insurance reasons, but with its roller rockers, extractors, 11 to 1 compression and 780cfm Holley it dyno tested 380hp. The XAGTHO (which never actually reached full swing production before being killed off) alegedly had 410hp. This is rediculious in my opinion, stick to 300 hp or so and your engine will last longer.

OK, I'm not trying to start an argument but the figures I had on the 2V hp came from a manual I have for the XA, XB and XC Falcons. It states that the 2V 351 Cleveland engine from the XA and XB's had 250 hp @ 4600rpm. The 2V 351 Cleveland fitted to the XC has 217 hp @ 4500 RPM by the manual. The 4V clevelands are rated a 300 hp @5400 rpm. Just for interest the XA and XB 302 had 230 hp @ 5000 and the XC 302 had 202 hp @ 4600. The vehicle manual is "Max Ellery'sd Vehicle Repai Manuals, FALCON/FAIRLANE, 1972 - 1979, XA, XB, XC" And the Hp ratings are on page 87.
I have heard that the XYGHTO (4V) dyno tested 380 -385 hp.

quite probably... although remember that the XD and XE 351's (which were both rated at 200hp and had 9:1 compression) had 4bbl carbs and 4bbl 2V intake manifolds, as opposed to an early 70's 2v 351 which will make around 230hp with a 600 4bbl holley and the 4bbl 2v intake used on the XD/XE.
Which would make me suspect that the XC 351 with 2bbl intake and carb would be a fairly pitiful performer, although I would also expect Ford not to have net this slip to the public in their marketing.
