83 ford ranger notices the parking brake gets stuck my parking brake half *** works feels loose when i press the parking brake. but you kina feel it when its in gauged. what can i do to make it not stuck i have to move the truck forward and back to kinda release it.

 

Try spraying WD-40 on the cables to the rear wheels. Give them a good soaking and then try applying and releasing the parking brakes several times. It may take several applications of WD-40 to break down the rust and corrosion that has built up over the years inside the cables.

 

I recently changed my rear drum brakes on my 88 ranger, and I started experiencing the same exact thing you are describing. Mine worked fine before I changed the brakes. I haven't tried fixing it yet, cause I busted my front piston lol.

Mine seemed to get a little better the more I used it...

 

well i took my truck to les schwab and man each side has different drums. so everything has to be re done.

 

lol, I believe there are 9" and 10" drums for the older rangers...

 

ya but one side has 9 inch and the other has a 10 inch drum

 

Best thing to do is replace the brake cable. A crack in the rubber lets in moisture and if salt is used on roads in winter the corrosion binds things up.

 

Hi ac91725, how did you wind up with two different size brake drums?

 

I've noticed the same thing with my ranger. Driver's side pB assembly on the shoe always seemed hard. Finally starting to stick now that's it's cold. I was going to cut that side off and just use the other side till i saw the driver's side is tied to the main cable...

BTW WD40 will not break down rust. it's a lubricant. You need Kroil or PB blaster.
