OK, I have lurked here for a while but never posted . Why are our trucks referred to as "slicks" ? I had never heard them called this before. Guess I am too old....: ) Thanks, Cliff

 

LOL I asked the same thing yesterday, and about 30 seconds before I saw this post, I saw where the '60s p/u trucks are called "Slick sixties." Live and learn, I figured that I was maybe too old also. LOL.

 

It came about as the result of brain storming by some truck owners wanting to come up with a name for their online Ford truck owners group.

Slick (slik) n. 1. Any Ford Motor Company truck manufactured between the years of 1961 and 1966. This includes all of the various models and body styles; F-100, F-250, F-350, F-450 thru F-800 series, Unibody, Styleside, Flareside, Custom Cab, Crew Cab, Supercab, Long Wheel Base, Short Wheel Base, Ranger Option, and so on. It also includes the corresponding Mercury models and body styles. 2. A slang synonym for the word “cool”. As in “Man, that thing is really slick!” 3. Forget all the other definitions for the word “Slick” in your Webster’s Dictionary.

So now you know.....

The 3 day Ford Nationals are comin' up in May in Knoxville, TN.

This is the largest display of vintage Ford trucks in the world.

Lots of parts there too.

 

Garbz & I are founding members of that group and were part of the group that coined the phrase Slicks. That was back when we could all fit in one room.
