Could someone with the MMB reverse tilt hood assy on their 53-56 F100 post a couple of close up pictures of the inside of the hood in the area where the stock hinges used to bolt up?

(This would hlp me with yet another custom touch that I'm working on.)

Rob , What does MMB stand for? I attempted to install a No-Limit unit,Didn't care for it.
I can take a hinge off with-out too much problem though, the hoods already off,and I drilled 2 holes for easy reinstall..What are you looking for exactly??

 

I believe MMB stands for "Much More Better" - it's the kit made by CPP and sold by Mid-Fifty and Hot Rods Classic Truck Parts.

I've ordered the kit but won't have it for at least a few weeks. I need to understand where the rollers bolt to in the general area of the old hinge mounting area for something else I'm doing to the hood.

If anyone can supply appropriate photos - either post them here or in your gallery or email them to me at the_fergusons at sympatico.ca

The roller monuts into the lower bolt hole as I understand it. I have the kit still in box, but I did read the instructions and it goes into the lower threaded hole so that it can ride the "rollercoaster" guide as the hood closes in the rear. I have no photos, only what the instructions had in them. Heres the link to the magazine article on the install of the CPP kit. I have just installed one of these kits on my truck and I want to give you feedback on my experience.

1- Tape off all points where the hood meets the cowl and front fenders (at the rear). Even after assembly, you will have some shimming and adjusting to do. Be super careful.

2- Get someone to help lift and hold the hood. You will sctrach something by yourself.

3- Get ready for adjusting.

4- You may have to shim or tweak the u-crossmember(what the hood pivots on) a little to keep it off your top radiator valance at least I had to.

5- The kit is easy to install and has a lot of adjustments, I tried to do it mostly by myself and was in a hurry to get the truck to paint. I don't why, its been five years since I started. I guess waiting a few more hours wouldn't hurt.

Sorry one more idea, since I am using a fiberglass cab, i could not use the OEM cowl welting that goes between the rear of the hood and cowl. We tried a piece of 3/8" vacum hose slit down the center and glued to the rear lip of the hood worked / looked great. The truck is black so it kinda reminds you of how the fender rubber looks from the outside. I will post some pics after we do some buffing.

Thanks for the tips relative to the adjustable braces you made as well as additional photos of the original rear hinge mount area.

I'll definitvely copy those as well as the pin idea to keep the hood open. I'll likely use one of those pins that has the spring loaded ball on the side near the end then I can simply drill a similar hole on the verticle square tube that abutts the hinge, to store the pin when not in use....

My kit hasn't arrived yet. It's part of a LARGE order I just placed with hot Rod's Classic Truck Parts. Don't expect it to arive for several weeks. I needed to understand what the reverse tilt assy did to the original hinge mount area on the rear of the hood for an additional mod I am working on for the hood.

However, all these tips and suggestions from all of you, relative to the mounting of the reverse tilt kit are greatly appreciated.

Ferguson777,this mod is one you may want to keep in your tool-kit of ideas.

Can you please measure the length of the square tube that is attached to the pivot bar(that is mounted on the grille support)and where it rotates in the hinge.I am trying to build my own system but I need this length.Please measure the length between the center of the pivotbar and the center of the bolt in the hinge if you would be so kind.

I'm building my own reversehood-system but I need to know the length of the square tube that is welded on the pivotbar and that is attached to the hinge on the hoodsupports.

The piece you are talking about is 5 13/16" long to the center of the 3/8ths bolt measured from the round bar. It made of 3/4" square tubing, there is 3/8" round tubing welded in for a bushing and these legs are 33 3/4" inside to inside on this bar. Hope this is the help you were looking for.
