Alright, so I went out to the truck this morning and she was having a hard time starting. I know that the battery is going so I am suspecting that this is the case. I was just wondering what battery you all recommend when it comes to the cold. I know that the CCA are really important and was wondering what works from experience.

Well i would get on with at least 675 cca what i run in the 351 and my dad has one with like 800 or something like that cca so taht matter for surely and it sure makes a difference having more cca he has a 302 as well

 

CCA stands for 'cold cranking amps'. Get the battery with the highest cca rating that will fit in the battery tray. A few minutes on the phone should give you a good canvas of what is available in your area. These will also be the most expensive batteries so price may be a factor if the budget is tight.

 

My son install audio system, lights and accessories in trucks and cars. He always tell me that Optima "red top" battery is the best. It is a sealed unit and the lead plates constructions are different that the "traditional" which withstands vibration much better.

 

Motorcraft BXT-65-850

 

Motorcraft BXT-65-850 - this is what I am using in my truck, it came with the Motorcraft BXT-65-650. They are dimensionaly the same size. It hasnt left me stranded yet even in -35 degree celcius weather.

 

Optima batteries in my area are twice the price and have no better warranty or expected life in the cold (according to the Optima dealer). By cold I mean it was -15F 2 days ago.

There are only 3 manufacturers of car "traditional" car batteries outside of Optima. Personally, I didn't go with the Optima and haven't regretted it one bit.

Do they still make the old Sears die hard batteries? they were pretty good back in the day.

 

Wallmart sells a pretty good battery at a pretty good price. I'm running a 850 cca one im my F250 SD.

I never thought to look at consumer reports. Thanks for the heads up. I will have to start comparing the cca's of those batteries to see what one will be the best for me. Thanks for all of the info guys,

Rule of thumb on batteries: Get the best warrently and highest CCA that you can, I like the Bosch battery, 3 year full replacement warrently and 96 months pro rated also at 850 CCA

 

Just dropped a Walmart battery into my '05. Out here in the desert batteries dont last very long, so decided 3yrs was enough for the stock one. They had a 850cca that was smaller in size than the HD battery that came with the truck. About $70 and 9yr warranty with 3yr free replacement.
