SPECS FOR AN 1975 460

If the 460 engine you have is a 1973 year engine,it must have originally come in a Lincoln. The 460 wasn't offered in the Thunderbird until 1974 model year. The 429 was the 1973 T-bird big-block.One of two things:either it came out of a '73 year Lincoln,or it was rebuilt, and stroked from 429 to 460cid.The 1973 heads have the same valve sizes:2.08"intake,1.66"exhaust as the later heads.A 1973 460 is listed as having the same compression ratio(8.0:1),and horsepower is listed at 219@4,400rpm.Torque is listed at 357 lbs./ft.@2,200rpm.Basically,the 460 engines found in '72-'78 cars had the same(or close to it)horsepower&torque ratings. In contrast, the 1973 429 was listed at 201 horsepower@4,400rpm.It also had 8.0:1 compression.Starting in 1972,Ford used net horsepower ratings for it's engines.

The D0VE part of your vin means that it is a 1970 model block. (the D stands for the the 1970-1979 decade like C stands for the 1960-1969 decade. The 0 stands for the year, 1970.) If it was out of a 1975 thunderbird the vin would be D5VE. The heads are from a 1973 model engine.

Actually in a 73 tbird you could get a 429 or a 460. I have a 73 tbird that I have owned since 85 and it still has its original 460. 73 was the first year for it though in the tbird.
