Ecoboost/boss

Ok just wondering that if the 5.4 is only going to make about 315hp for the 2009 year than in 2010 the Ecoboost V6 is suppose to come out and make 340HP wouldn't ford have to either really bump the HP up in the 5.4 or have the Boss 6.2 as the bigger engine offer? Just wouldn't make sense to have a V6 making more power than a V8.

Heck, the 4.6L in the Bullitt edition Mustang makes 315hp. Surely they can do better with the 5.4L.

umm, not really, the bullitt made 265hp and 315tq. the mach1 made 305hp/320tq albeit somewhat underrated. the 4.6's torque curve is nowhere near the 5.4s. While my mach will put down more wheel torque than my truck, I wouldn't use that engine to tow much honestly. ford CAN build a mean n/a 5.4, they've done it in the past, just gotta get it past the bean counters...

Ford has not released HP numbers. 315HP is pure smoke blowing by any source (including Motortrend) until Ford actually releases numbers.

The new Jag XF is getting a 300/310 4.2L I'd imagine it's a Ford modular?
The XF-R gets a SC/IC 4.2L and 420/408

So there is room to grow with the modulars.

I don't care if the 4.6 and V6 have higher horsepower than the 5.4. Let them be used by the boy racers and leave the 5.4 for those of us who tow. We want torque and to heck with the the horsepower. When towing, there is not replacement for displacement.

I can guarentee you that turbocharged small cid V6 isn't going to have a torque curve of the 5.4l. As said before for pulling you need torque down low that spreads across the powerband.

I say Ford can keep their Ecoboost. If mpg is such an issue, buy a small car.

Its thinking like that that will put full size trucks to sleep......like it or not, emission standards are going to continue to increase, and like it or not....eventually trucks will have to improve.

i have heard rumores pf fprd putting ecoboost on the V8 engins, the 4V and direct injection would even help out alot with out the turbo. they have been using direct injection on boat motors for a while noe, its good technology.

It will eventually be like Europe and many other countries in the states and Canada. The few trucks that are around will be way underpowered. The ecoboost will do nothing to prevent it. Many people want trucks to die. A truck will ALWAYS use more fuel than a car.

Just because something is new doesn't always mean its better.

People gripe that the 5.4l 3V needs more power, a turbocharged small displacement engine just does not have the powerband needed for towing and in a heavy truck.

Besides Ford has a hard enough time getting turbos to last in the diesels, just imagine hundreds of thousands of turbocharged 6cyl engines being overworked in trucks.

geez you guys just won't quit pissin and moanin untill you get a 6 liter gas guzzler, will ya
I've seen plenty of forced induction engines that'd be great in a truck. Big torque, flat thu the dyno graph.

yeah, but they're not small displacement turbo gas ones, are they?

honestly, if they wanted torque out of a gasser, positive displacement blowers have been proven to work quite well w/ the mod motors; ford would have no problem getting ridiculous amounts of power very easily out of their trucks.

ideally, they'd have the best of both worlds, for those of you complaining about mileage a small diesel motor making similar torque to the 5.4 now, and getting good mpg, and for those that want hp/tq/speed, a 6+ liter gasser that's been rumored - 425/425 should suffice... or god forbid, the logical thing for the baby brother of the super dutys - a v10 based on the 4.6 stroke... or even the 6.8.
