Flatdeck drives like a pickup again..

Being that I work 4000ft up a hill, my flatdeck was scary going up that hill. No weight over my tires, it was an experience that I dont want to repeat.

I have friends that work for the Commercial Division of Kal Tire, asked them for a couple of tires, or something around 300lbs. They gave me 1 tire, it weighs 350lbs, takes up 90% of my deck. This is a freaking HUGE tire, I'll get pics on my day off...

But the truck sure drives like a pickup again.

At 350 lbs I would say that is a huge tire.

I am curious about your flat deck. What is it made of?I am going to put one on my truck,I was going to use steel with a wood deck.I didn't think it would be that light,I figured I would be making sure that it wasn't to heavy.Just curious.

My deck right now is only temporary. It just plywood & 4x4's, I have some steel at a buddies place, but I dont have access to a welder anymore.

Suggestion, use at least 1/2" plywood, I used 1/4" and its pretty flimsy. But I have 4x14"x1/2" threaded rod going thru the frame, my deck isn't going anywhere.

I didn't want a big heavy deck, as the box I unloaded was a 1/2" thick plate steel loggers box, it probably weighs 2000lbs all by itself.

Edit: One big a$$ tire....

Yeah those box's on the crummy's are pretty heavy-duty.I spent part of my day looking for a welder interested in helping me out.It looks like I am going to need to find someone to do it in there spare time. It's been tough finding anyone to do anything in this town, everyone is so busy.Maybe I will rent a welder and teach myself the art.

If I had a wirefeed I could probably help you, and was in the area.
My welds aint the prettiest, but they hold.

That is a pretty decent sized tire. Its funny how a little bit of weight can make the truck feel life a different truck.
