Just to tie everything together, here's the link:

Ps Edit Note - no sweat, I also updated it with some new pics...Like these! I think they pretty much clear up the cross member questions - it's gotta go!:
Hope you feel better soon - drink plenty of fluids. Tequilla works, it won't cure the cold, but you really won't care!

Oh, you know...pretty slow going. I recently joined the unemployed of america, got laid off, so moneys been a little tight. Though I did come across another 48 f-1 about two months ago with what looks like a good 8ba flathead in it and a title for 500 bucks, so I may have the engine I've been looking for if it turns out to be good and not junk. I now have a title in my name, which is a huge relief! I haven't tore into the engine yet, still need to pull it out of the truck. It sure is nice to have another whole truck of parts when you're doing this kind of stuff! Let me know if you need help dropping that engine in...

Well after a trial fit today it looks like some more firewall modifications are in order. The engine touches the fire wall just about an inch to far foward. It sits low enough that just a little bit of cutting and reshaping may be needed, this will give me more room for the tranny mount farther back away from the brake booster too!I hate to do it, but I guess this is what hot rodding is all about!

tranny crossmember
Looking good Steve. I'm doing some work on my tranny crossmember too. I decided I wasn't happy with the crankshaft/pinion angles I was getting - I need to raise the back of the tranny a few inches so I'm in the process of making a spacer etc? or maybe I'll just copy that nice looking thing you had built. That looks a lot better than my cobbled together stuff. Lookin good.

Got a bunch done to the engine today. I mounted the march performance alternator bracket, which relocated the alt. away from the bottom of the engine and the frame. I also worked on lots of little stuff, like sealing all the vacuum and water plugs in the intake, putting in the new sending units for temp and oil, putting inspection plate back on tranny, and working on replacing the u joint so I can get the drive line in. Lots of trips to Napa and Rex hardware today!
