This is pretty interesting, they say that they are getting 380 hp and 417 ft lbs out of this new engine. Hopefully ford can get at least this much if not more power out of there 6.2L engine.

I wonder why it's rated for less horsepower in the Chevy compared to the Denali.

Ford had better wake up........the 6.2/6speed in the Sierra Denali was a GREAT drivetrain.

 

Although Ford has some great vehicles they've really started to lag behind the competition in regards to motors and new motor R&D.

 

Another example of how Fords outdated "modular" V8 engines are holding the brand back. Just cause the cams are on top doesn't necessarily make an engine modern. I wonder if ford even cares that their "optional" V8 is outclassed by the other manufacturers base V8 engines.

 

Yeah, just look at the 5.7 HEMI, pushrod, 2 valve, no VVT or any of that, and has more HP/liter then the 5.4 modular

I wonder how they will hold up though. Ive seen more Tahoes an Suburbans traded in for Ford SUVs then I can ever remember. People have had so much grief with these things there trying to get back to some more relaible vehicles. Lets hope the new generation have better relaibility then the old. I wonder what the gas mileage is on those things. Probably not good.

Up-rate engines in the premium class. Simple as that.

 

I think the just passed fuel mileage law may kill the big powerful engines in trucks and SUVs like the insurance companies killed the muscle cars of the 60s and early 70s.

If a large engine is available, I'll bet it will be at a very premium price. Also, the Gas Guzzler tax may appear at a much higher rate to knock down demand. If the higher tax group takes over all of the lawmaking parts of the government next year as expected, expect them to aim at large vehicles.

 

You're right.............I remember the Camaro Vs. Corvette ratings a few years back.

Supposedly the exhaust was different and the Camaro had a 20HP deficit...but they dynoed the same.

 

Yeah it make more hp, but put a load behind that no torque Hemi and see how it pulls next to a 3V 5.4L. You'll have to watch it in your mirror, cuz it won't cut it. The Hemi is a great engine for a car, not a truck.

 

Because the LS? engines are a good design, but they are wrapped in a cheaply built, electrical disaster package that makes them not worth keeping.

 

Any evidence of this? Was it not FORD that issued a bulletin not to park certian vehicles inside a garague due to risk of your new f-150 burning your house down.

Say what you want only an fool would knock the outstanding LS engines if they were offered underneath the hoods of F150's fords sales would only get better

 

The latest 5.7 has 390 ft-lbs of torque. 30 more then the 3 valve.

 

@ what, 5000rpm? The 3V 5.4L makes 85% of it's 365lb/ft at 1000rpm. That's what gets a load moving.

I'm not knocking the LS series engines. They are a very powerful, efficient engine. It's ashame that Ford can't get the power and economy that GM does out of similar sized engines.
GM's have been plagued with wiring/ground issues since the early 80's. Especially rear lighting problems.
Yes Ford had a bad (made by an outsourced company) switch that had about .01% of them fail and short out causing a fire.
