O5 wont shift from park

Hope someone can help,
My son's Escape won't shift out of park when you press on the brake. He says the button on the floor shifter won't depress. Says it feels ike it does when you try to shift without pressing the brake pedal. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

EE

Are the brake lights working?

If not, check the fuse & check the ajustment of the brake light switch.

You can just press the manual override to take it out of park. This allows it to be driven if the switch is broken. the switch is under the steering column

My 2005 shifts on the floor. It has a small round cover (about 1/2" in diameter) on the console, right beside the shifter. The owners manual explains the process. Just use a small screw driver and pry the cover off. There is a white button down in there. Use the same screw driver to push that button. That is the manual over ride and you will be able to get it out of park.

I just had this problem with my 05' Escape. They had to replace the fuse panel for $206.

Another question about the sifter.... I have an '05 and when shifting from Park to Drive it is really rough and noisey and then even when shifting from reverse to drive it is rough getting it to move. It does move but very noisy almost like the shift rails mechanism is dry. Are there any lube points to lubricate the locking unit (the guides) and rails? I had the transmision flushed and that did not resolve the problem. I am about ready to remove the center console and dig in. Nobody has a Haynes manual in stock to purchase and I have ordered it but still waiting for it to arrive. Leaving next Thursday for a meeting in Michigan and don't want anything to "lockup" while traveling. Any ideas???
