How much would a 92-96 f150 weigh empty with a 351w, overdrive tranny, long bed, 4x4, reg cab, and dual tanks. How do they compare in weight to an 84 f150 with basically the same set up?

 

My truck weighs 4750 on the local dump scales, the regular cab version is probably 100-200lbs lighter.

 

Depends on if it's 4wd, which is about 200-300 lbs.

An 84 with the same drivetrain/wheelbase would be within 100-200lbs of eachother.

 

Consumer Guide's review of the '90-96 F-150s shows the '90 regular cab long bed 4x2 at about 3975 lbs if I remember right. I'd guess 4WD adds 200-300 lbs. I don't remember seeing what engine their model had, but I think the 351 is not much heavier than the 302 (maybe 50 lbs.?), nor is it much heavier than the 300 six.

If anything, I'd have to guess an '84 would weigh about the same, maybe even a bit heavier owing to more metal in some places than the '92-96 models. Just a guess on that, though.

 

my 88 4wheel is around 4200 with 1.5 tanks. But can you really trust the scrap metal recyclers

 

My 92 F150, 4x4, 5.0, manual, regular cab, and short box weighed 4350 pounds with a full tank of gas.

 

Thanks for the replys. I was guessing at around 4000 to 4500 lbs. I can't remember exactly but I weighed a 1991 explorer on co-op scales and it was either 4000 or 4400, I can't remember, and didn't figure the f-150 would way to much more considering it doesn't have all the carpeting and extra seats and the extra weight of all the metal and glass that encloses everything.

 

Look inside the driver side door, there is a badge that will tell you

 

The VIN sticker near the strike plate in the door jam will give the GVW/Gross Vehicle Weight of the truck. Not the empty weight.

 

So I take it my shortbox/reg cab/manual everything should way about 4,000lbs correct? Oh and it's a 2wd 302..

 

The GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is not what the vehicle weighs, it's the max capacity of the vehicle (full weight) under load. So that is the maximum weight that truck can be when loaded.

 

Your desc. matches my truck perfectly.It weighed 4400 with me in it and not very much gas.

 

Most of you guys will find yourselves better off than I am, GVWR-wise. My truck is rated at 4900 lbs.! So, once you add myself, my three-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter (they're almost ALWAYS with me!), I can haul about 700 lbs., which is !!!

 

I would say that they are both really close in wait, I would say that the 92-96 would way more, but within 500 lbs.

 

builtfordtough13, why would you say that the 92-96 weigh more? Do they have something extra that would weigh more? Are they slightly longer or taller so there is more sheetmetal or what?
