installation of PTO

I had the option to have a PTO put in my '08 550 but I didn't feel I needed one at the time -- Now I have changed my mind! The truck has less than 1,000 miles on it. What are my options for having one installed now? I am guessing it will cost me much more since I did not have one installed at the factory? Any advice?

someone posted a mod that all you need to do is connect some preexisting wires to the #4 switch and it will be the PTO system. Search the superduty section of this forum

If you mean that you bought the truck without the PTO option installed, then it gets a bit pricier. The factory doesn't install PTOs, they install the access to have a PTO installed by an aftermarket company.

To add the PTO access now, assuming you have an automatic trans, means a new transmission. You could rebuild the one you have, I expect the cost to do that would be similar to a new trans. The case needs to be changed, and those are NOT cheap!

I believe the PTO priovision is standard. I have the wires for mine under the steering column but I have an automatic transmission. This has do to with the wiring harness of the truck. The truck is prewired for many things i.e the upfitter switches. They may not be installed but you can add them later. The PTO is another item that can be added later just a more expensive add on.
