Custom Intake Ideas!
I have a 1995 F350, with a 460. I have a drop in K&N Cold Air Intake currently. It makes a cool noise, but I have to believe it couldnt possibly be doing anything over the stock one because it is exposed to so much engine heat. I want to custom make one that taps into the grill, or somewhere, where it can draw actual cold air, and not dense, hot air right off the engine. Any one have any ideas what I could do to fabricate an intake in? Maybe use a diesel one? I have a double tubed intake right now so it would have to fit that.

This may not apply to your situation, but here goes...
I have removed my stock airbox and replaced it with a NAPA 6637 filter and four-inch exhaust elbow. This all connects to the stock intake tube connected to the turbo.
This set up sits behind the driver-side battery. The top of the filter presses against the fender, preventing the filter from moving around. This upgrade gave me a 0.5 MPG increase. I now average 17.25 MPG on a regular basis unloaded.
I guess what I'm suggesting to you is, spend some time at the local parts stores or salvage yards. Look around and see what's there. Inspiration is only a blink away.
Good luck.

I work in a exhaust shop and we bought 3in shoes just so we could make intakes for our vehicles, my friend got a whole mpg better on his 95 4.9 when we made routed the air filter into the grille, you can also make a heat sheild out of the stuff you can buy to wrap a starter in. In the begginning we made a few out of pvc and rub hose adapters, worked alright. These should be about $50 if you plan it right.
