01 Lightning

A friend of mine has an 01 Lightning, it is out of warranty and he is looking to bump it up a bit,,,,, !!! What are some good ways to wake this thing up more, I usuallly deal with the oil-burners where air in, programmer and smoke out work, and my old carburated beasts from the 60's and 70's, so this is new territory for me. How are these with mods and changes,,,, we stayed at about $2700 on the mods on his 05 SD Harley 6.0 , so I am guessing probably around that amount.
What has everyone had good luck with? What is to much (is that possible?!)
Thanks
Joe

Is it his daily driver? Weekend only truck? Work truck?

Will it see the strip? Autocross?

I'm assuming he wants mild upgrades, enough to make sure no SRT 10 can challenge him, right?

That being said, a 4 or 6lb lower pulley to up the boost, a true CAI filter setup like the ones sold by Chickenears or JLP, a good dyno tune using SCT, Predator, or Sniper (depending on his choice of tuners...there are a couple good ones down in SoCal), a modified transmission valve body (Factory Tech VB, Lightning Force VB, Dante's Modular Performance VB, etc), a set of NGK TR6 plugs, and some traction bars to eliminate axle wrap/wheel hop so he won't destroy his drive shaft.

That's a sure fire recipe for fun right there!

He wants enough to walk away from alot of things!! It is not his daily driver, he has a few other trucks also! On the dyno tunes,,,, they tune it on a dyno for that specific truck? We are close to SoCal 5 hr drive,,, would it be worth it to make a trip down?

Thanks
Joe

If he is wanting to spend a few thousand just put a Kenne Bell or whipple blower on it and tune it to be safe. Add the mods to the rest of the vehicle to make use of the power as mentioned above and be done with it.

IMO a good dyno tune is worth the drive, I drive a little over 16hrs for my tuning! And yes, it would be tuned for that specific truck. His L could be mid 12's for 1000-2000 bucks depending on whats used.
