94 Ranger 4X4 Not Working

My four wheel drive in my 94 Ranger doesn't want to work. When push the 4x4 button in makes a loud clunck then when I drive foward it just clicks and won't engage into 4x4. Any thoughts on issue would greatly help.

sounds like auto hubs are faling. if this is the case change to manual hubs and problem solved.
